Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is known for his versatility and charisma on screen. He has played a variety of roles, from historical figures to quirky characters. But is he ready to take on the challenge of playing India’s first superhero, Shaktimaan after Don?
According to recent reports, Ranveer Singh is in talks to star in a film based on the iconic character created by veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, who portrayed Shaktimaan on television in the 1990s. The film is said to be directed by Basil Joseph, who has helmed Malayalam films like Minnal Murali and Godha.
Actor Tovino Thomas drops major hint
The news was hinted at by Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who is also part of the project. Tovino Thomas went live on Instagram a few days ago to celebrate the official selection of his film 2018 for the Oscars. The film, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, is based on the devastating floods that hit Kerala in 2018.
During the live session, Ranveer Singh surprised Tovino Thomas by commenting “Love from Mumbai”. Tovino Thomas acknowledged Ranveer Singh’s comment and said that he was just discussing with Basil Joseph about how Ranveer Singh is going to have a good time working with him. Tovino was overheard saying, “I was telling Basil Joseph that you are an amazing actor, and he is going to have so much good times. Congratulations bro!”
Although neither of them revealed the name or the details of the project, the interaction suggested that they are collaborating for a film, which is likely to be the Shaktimaan project. Ranveer Singh also expressed his wish to perform alongside Tovino Thomas someday and asked his fans if they want to see them together.
Ranveer commented, “Who here wants Tovino × Ranveer?” and a few minutes later, he wrote, “Wish I can perform alongside you someday. Would be amazing!”
About Shaktimaan Film
The Shaktimaan project was announced by Sony Pictures last year, with Mukesh Khanna as the creative consultant. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the cast and crew of the film. If Ranveer Singh is indeed playing Shaktimaan, it will be a huge boost for the film and a treat for the fans of the superhero.
Ranveer Singh’s projects
Ranveer Singh has been busy with multiple projects this year. He was last seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a romantic comedy directed by Karan Johar. The film was a huge hit at the box office and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Ranveer Singh played Rocky Randhawa, a charming and flamboyant man who falls in love with Rani Kapoor, played by Alia Bhatt. The film also starred Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
Ranveer Singh is also set to take on the role of Don in Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3. A remake of the 1978 film of the same name starring Amitabh Bachchan, the film was a major success and was followed by a sequel titled Don 2.
This news of starring Ranveer Singh didn’t go well with the fans of Shah Rukh Khan who were waiting to see their favorite star in the third installment after so many years. However, there is a section of the audience that has welcomed this change and feels it was the need of the hour.
