Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat: A Multi-Part Epic with Multiple Directors, Set to Redefine Indian Cinema

Multiple Directors, Multi-Part Format & Years Of Writing – Here’s What’s Cooking

Aamir Khan is once again igniting controversies with the Bollywood project that has been closest to him — his ambitious attempt to adapt the Mahabharat. This is not just any other mythological retelling. This is Aamir’s dream that’s been haunting him for years and is now coming to life; a Lord of the Rings-level spectacle.

The superstar has recently offered some new insights in a recent interview that has the fans on the edge of their seats. Aamir revealed that the work on Mahabharat is in the initial writing stages, claiming that the endeavour is of such magnitude it will “take years” to sculpt it fully. What’s got the internet talking, however, is how it won’t be a single film or even a trilogy but rather multiple films, aka Khan’s diving headfirst into uncharted waters.

Multi-Director Vision For A Multi-Generational Epic

Aamir seems to be open to not tackling everything all at once — at least this time. The actor-producer suggested multiple directors take charge of different chapters of the saga. Each part will be, or at least should be, based off the premise of properly honouring the nuance laden within.

“I’ve been thinking about Mahabharat for many years now. It’s not a film, it’s a project of faith. You can’t rush it,” Aamir said during the latest round of conversations.

He did not share any information concerning the casting, but it is prudent to make some inferences. Considering the expansion of the genre and the OTT wave, there is a likelihood of a multi-faceted cast.
