Aamir Khan has finally addressed the much discussed Pathaan moment that brought Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan together and sparked playful debate about who could carry Bollywood into its next era.
In a new interview, Aamir Khan framed the scene as more than an in film joke, calling it a tongue in cheek nod to stardom itself, and he pointed to Ranveer Singh as one of the leading contenders to take the baton.
Aamir Khan On The Pathaan SRK Salman Scene
Speaking to Variety, Aamir revealed he has still not watched Pathaan in full, but made sure to seek out the specific exchange that had become pop culture shorthand for the changing guard in Hindi cinema. Aamir said, “You know, there was a very funny scene in ‘Pathaan’. I don’t even know whether I should mention this, but I haven’t watched the movie because I don’t watch that many films. But I was told about the scene and I saw it on YouTube. Salman and Shah Rukh are sitting at the end of the film and discussing who is going to… It was tongue-in-cheek. It was about the film, but it was also about outside the film.”
The comment lands at a time when the conversation around bankable stars has expanded beyond the Khans to a younger crop of actors delivering large scale hits and event films.
Ranveer Singh And The Next Generation Of Superstars
In the same conversation, Aamir challenged the assumption that the scene was aimed at him as the “third Khan,” instead highlighting how newer names are already proving their pull. He added, “Without taking names, a lot of people guessed what they (SRK and Salman) were trying to say. But today, those same young actors have shown us that not only are they there, they can give us a run for our money — Chhaava Vicky Kaushal, Animal Ranbir Kapoor, Dhurandhar Ranveer. They’re there. They’re very capable of taking over from us. I would say they are very talented actors, perhaps more talented than us. They are staking a claim for a rightful place.”
By grouping Ranveer with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, Aamir positioned the conversation beyond one successor, instead pointing to an emerging top tier that could reshape mainstream cinema over the next decade.
What’s Next For Ranveer And Shah Rukh
The remarks also arrive as Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge remains one of the most talked about upcoming big screen titles, while Shah Rukh Khan is set to reunite with director Siddharth Anand for King. Together, those projects keep the spotlight on how Bollywood’s current icons and its next wave may coexist, compete, and collaborate.
