‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ – A Spiritual Sequel To A Classic
First Ever Sequel in Aamir Khan’s Career to Release June 20, 2025
Aamir Khan is once again back, leading new territory with Sitaare Zameen Par, which is set for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025. This film is a landmark — it is the first sequel of Aamir Khan’s illustrious 37-year history as an actor, but it is what we would call a spiritual sequel. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par takes the themes of emotion, sport, and social change and puts them together into a new and compelling story.
In 2007, Aamir Khan made one of Hindi cinema’s most emotional films in Taare Zameen Par, where he played a loving teacher, helping a dyslexic child find his potential. Nearly twenty years later, Sitaare Zameen Par covers similar emotion and inspiration with a different story.
The film is officially adapted from the 2023 Spanish film Champion. In Champion, the story is about a seizure and a gruff basketball coach who teaches intellectually disabled athletes. In its Hindi iteration, the film takes the same story and flavour of Indian narratives. Aamir Khan stars in the film, taking on a transformative role, along with Genelia Deshmukh as his partner in the film.
R.S. Prasanna Brings His Signature Sensibility
Well-known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and the biopic documentary On A Quest, director R.S. Prasanna will be expected to marry easy-going comedic humour with social messaging. His working relationship with writer Divy Nidhi Sharma should help with depth, while composers Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy team up with lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya for a memorable soundtrack.
Fresh Faces In The Limelight
As an exciting shot in the arm, the cast has ten new faces:
Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar – most of them are most probably part of the main team in the story.
Aamir Khan’s Return Sparks Buzz
It is already gaining momentum and will surely become popular with Aamir Khan Productions alongside Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka leading the charge and the emotional impact of the title. Fans are getting more and more excited with the poster reveal, and people’s curiosity is piqued to see how the actor-filmmaker will handle the themes this time.
Khan is well-known for being choosy with his scripts as well as generally living, breathing, and selecting socially relevant topics. Once again, he has chosen a social topic while also being entertaining and more empathic. No different than the legacy of Taare Zameen Par, the expectations from Sitaare Zameen Par will naturally be extremely high.
