After Laal Singh Chaddha One More Remake: Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Branded ‘Dull’ & ‘Copy-Paste’; Netizens Compare It Scene-to-Scene With Spanish Original Champions

Backlash Erupts Over Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer: Aamir Khan’s Comeback Faces Heat

What was supposed to be a heartfelt return for Aamir Khan has turned into a trolling frenzy on all social media channels. The trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par has been released, and while it is supposed to play at the heart… so many on social media, which was supposed to be ‘nice’, are now saying it is anything but original — calling it a “scene-to-scene copy” of the Spanish smash hit Champions.

“Dull, Derivative, Disappointing” — Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Ripped Apart Online

A good portion of people didn’t waste any time in tearing apart the idea of the plot and treatment of Sitaare Zameen Par from Champions (2018) — a beloved Spanish sports dramedy about a disgraced coach who is forced to coach a basketball team of individuals with intellectual disabilities. So many people felt that Sitaare Zameen Par was ripped too closely, or literally, from the original, without any soul to it; no flavour.

“The trailer of #SitaareZameenPar is dull and looks like a scene-to-scene copy of the original Champions trailer. This is not a tribute, it is Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V,” wrote one user, summarizing the outrage.

Fan Backlash Puts Aamir Khan’s Comeback In Jeopardy

The superstar, whose last film was Laal Singh Chaddha (a remake), now faces yet another backlash from critics who claim he is too dependent on foreign remakes with zero originality. To make matters worse, audiences say that the emotional aspect — an earmark of Aamir Khan’s previous films — comes across as disingenuous in Sitaare Zameen Par.

“Aamir used to change cinematic norms, now he just has to remake it. First Forrest Gump then Champions — what’s next?” added another user.

Aamir Khan is back in this spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, this time as a once-revered basketball coach who has his career derailed after clashing with the law. As a result, as part of an order to carry out community service, he’s forced to coach a team of neurodivergent children. And begins to undergo an emotional metamorphosis in either himself, his team, or both. Genelia Deshmukh brings a tad of a romantic twist, while the trailer is being trolled for its copycatism.

Fan Reactions: Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Trailer Faces Heat for Being ‘Copy-Paste’ of Spanish Film Champions

As soon as the trailer of Aamir Khan’s much-awaited Sitaare Zameen Par dropped, social media was quick to draw comparisons with the Spanish film Champions. While some lauded the film’s emotional tone, many users didn’t hold back their criticism — accusing the trailer of being uninspired and heavily “borrowed”.

X user @iamitak_ bluntly wrote:

“#SitaareZameenPar Trailer – Dull. Scene to scene copy of original Champions trailer. This is not what we expect from Aamir.”

Another user, @mukesh1275, echoed the same disappointment:

“What is this Aamir Khan? This looks like a straight-up copy. Where’s the creativity? Taare Zameen Par had soul, this just feels flat.”

Written by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film reveals society’s biases while empowering differently-abled children through sport & inclusion.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict:

“While originality is under restraint and emotionality is weak, the Sitaare Zameen Par trailer fails to hit the levels of grandeur it was presumed to produce. Aamir Khan is still the king of emotional cinema, but the ocean of netizens wants originality and not a rehash this time around.”
