Aamir Khan is looking far beyond Bollywood for what may become his most ambitious action play yet. The actor-producer is understood to be exploring a collaboration with Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Chow as he searches for a project mounted on a scale that can travel internationally and stand apart from the action spectacles already fronted by his contemporaries.
The development comes at a time when Aamir appears to be carefully mapping his next phase, weighing scripts and long-gestation ideas instead of rushing into a sign-on. That measured approach has long defined his choices, but this time the brief seems especially clear: he wants an action film with a bigger visual and tonal identity than the genre outings he has attempted before.
Why Stephen Chow Is On Aamir Khan’s Radar
A source close to the development says, “His contemporaries Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have already headlined big-ticket action spectacles. While Aamir has done action, he is keen to explore the genre with a film that can compete on an international scale. Given Stephen’s distinctive approach to action and physical comedy, Aamir is keen to work on something with him.”
That interest is easy to understand. Chow remains one of Asian cinema’s most recognisable creative forces, with Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle still celebrated for blending slapstick, martial arts and large-scale crowd-pleasing spectacle. In 2026, he returned to directing with Kung Fu Soccer, underscoring that his command over outsized commercial storytelling continues to hold strong.
The Project Is Still In Early Conversations
For now, the collaboration is not locked. Aamir is still considering multiple scripts before choosing his next acting vehicle. Another action project in the mix is a film with Atlee, though no final call has been taken yet.
The same source adds, “Aamir is also weighing an actioner by Atlee. He has requested time till March 2027. Right now his focus is on Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Lalkaara based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test cricket series and director Rajkumar Hirani’s sequel to 3 Idiots which will be ready by January 2027.”
Aamir Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Aamir was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, directed by Advait Chandan and co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya. In the same year, he also made a cameo appearance in Salaam Venky. Since then, his screen appearances have remained selective, while his focus has increasingly expanded to production.
On the production front, he backed Laapataa Ladies, which released in 2024 and earned strong appreciation. His acting slate has since included Sitaare Zameen Par in 2025 and a special appearance in Coolie the same year. Looking ahead, he is also attached to Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos and Ek Din, both listed for 2026, while the newly discussed Stephen Chow possibility signals that he may be preparing a far more global action chapter next.
