Back in 2013, Aanand L Rai teamed up with South actor Dhanush for the romantic drama Raanjhanaa. The film had great music, an amazing cast also including Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol, and a strong storyline. It went on to become a major critical and commercial success. A decade later as the film clocks ten years, the director-actor duo is returning to the silver screen once again.
Recently, Rai shared a short teaser video, announcing his next project with Dhanush. In the video, Dhanush is seen running while holding a burning Molotov. The entire sequence has a Dhanush voice-over and glasses from side-by buses breaking. In the end, he throws the Molotov on a wall where ‘From The World of Raanjhanaa‘ is written. The wall is engulfed with flames and the text on the wall changes to: ‘Tere Ishk Mein’, which is the reported title of their film.
Aanand L Rai’s String Of Flops
2015 was the year when Aanand L Rai delivered his last well-received box-office hit. It was followed by the Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Zero which turned out to be a disaster. In 2021, he teamed up with Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan for Atrangi Re. The film turned out to be another poorly received project for Rai. Last year, Rai collaborated with Akshay once again for Raksha Bandhan. The film went on to become a box-office flop and was widely panned for its regressive and patriarchal themes. It seems that Rai teaming up with Dhanush might be a desperate attempt for him to save his own career which has been falling apart lately.
Raanjhanaa Was Dhanush’s Only Hindi Hit
Tamil superstar Dhanush made his Bollywood debut with Raanjhanaa. Despite not having a good grasp of Hindi, he delivered an incredible performance that was widely appreciated by everyone. After that, he appeared in R. Balki’s Shamitabh and teamed up with Rai again for Atrangi Re. But none of these projects worked at the box office. So far, Raanjhanaa remains the only Bollywood hit in Dhanush’s career. So it seems that Rai, more than Dhanush, needs to boost his career and for this, he is trying to cash in on the popularity and cult following of Raanjhanaa.
