Adil Hussain remains resolute in his stance despite facing backlash from filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga for expressing regret about his involvement in the movie Kabir Singh.
Vanga, who directed Kabir Singh, took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise Hussain after the actor openly admitted his embarrassment over his role in the 2019 film. In a recent interview, Hussain confessed his regret for being part of the project, citing discomfort with its themes.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s response on social media didn’t hold back. He chose to ridicule Hussain’s preference for ‘art films’, implying that his pursuit of fame through one blockbuster overshadowed his artistic integrity. Vanga’s tweet took a jab at Hussain’s career choices and hinted at replacing his face with AI, seemingly as a form of mockery.
Ur 'belief' in 30 art films didn't get as much fame to u as ur 'regret' of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film did 👏https://t.co/BiJIV3UeyO
I regret casting u,knwing that ur greed is bigger than ur passion. NOW I'll save U from the shame by replacing Ur face with AI help👍 Now smile properly 🙂— Sandeep Reddy Vanga (@imvangasandeep) April 18, 2024
Adil Hussain Stands Firm On His Opinion Regarding Kabir Singh
Responding to Vanga’s post, Adil Hussain reiterated his stance in an interview with ETimes. Despite being in the US and unaware of Vanga’s comments, Hussain stood by his words, emphasising that his opinion was expressed in an interview, not on social media platforms. He expressed shock at the film Kabir Singh upon watching it and maintained his regret over his involvement.
He stated, “I’m in the USA right now. I have not seen Sandeep’s post Also I do not intend to. Whatever I said about Kabir Singh was in an interview, and not on social media. I was completely shocked when I watched the movie and I really regret doing it. I won’t change my stand.”
Here’s What Adil Had Said About Kabir Singh
Vanga’s reaction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) came after Hussain revealed details about his involvement in the film during an interview on the AP Podcast YouTube channel.
Hussain, discussing his brief appearance in Kabir Singh, admitted to attempting to avoid participating in the project altogether. He revealed that he even demanded a significant fee from the production team, believing they would decline his terms. However, to his surprise, they agreed to his condition, leading him to reluctantly take part in the film.
Expressing regret over his decision, Hussain stated that Kabir Singh was the only film he wished he hadn’t been a part of. He criticised the film for promoting themes that he deemed harmful to society, such as male misogyny and violence.
About Kabir Singh And Adil Hussain’s Role In The Film
The film Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and based on the Telugu film Arjun Reddy, gained popularity for its music and romantic storyline. However, it faced criticism for allegedly promoting misogyny and chauvinism through Shahid Kapoor’s character. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga also received backlash for his portrayal of abusive behaviour in the film.
Adil Hussain portrayed the character of Kabir’s medical college dean in Kabir Singh. The movie also featured Kiara Advani as the female lead, alongside actors like Arjan Bajwa, Nikita Dutta, and Kamini Kaushal in pivotal roles.
