With less than a week remaining until the premiere of Adipurush, the atmosphere is already buzzing with excitement. The advance ticket sales have commenced in select international markets and have received a tremendous response. This suggests that in its domestic market, the film starring Prabhas is anticipated to have an outstanding opening.
Initially, the plan for the release of Adipurush included not only 2D and 3D versions but also an IMAX format. However, this plan was eventually abandoned. According to a source, Adipurush is considered one of the most extravagant films ever made in India, and the filmmakers believed that an IMAX release would be fitting for such a grand production.
The source further explained that this idea had to be scrapped due to a scheduling conflict with Warner Bros’ superhero film, The Flash, which is also set to release on the same day. Apparently, the IMAX screens had been pre-booked by The Flash well in advance, and according to IMAX regulations, two films cannot be released simultaneously on their screens. Consequently, the decision to release Adipurush in IMAX theaters had to be dropped.
Adipurush Lost Premium IMAX Ticket Sales
According to the source, Adipurush was initially slated for release on January 12, 2023. The teaser, which premiered on October 2, 2022, prominently displayed the IMAX logo. However, the film’s release was subsequently postponed by approximately five months. Until the first week of April 2023, the promotional materials and posters for Adipurush continued to feature the IMAX logo, but then it was removed. Additionally, when the trailer was launched on May 9, it also did not include the IMAX logo.
Expressing disappointment, an insider from the industry remarked that a film of Adipurush’s caliber deserved an IMAX release. However, they lamented that such is the way the IMAX management operates.
In addition to Prabhas, the cast of Adipurush includes Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Devdatta Nage, Sunny Singh, and Vatsal Sheth. The film is helmed by Om Raut, known for directing the acclaimed movie Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020). Adipurush is set to have a worldwide release on June 16, showcasing in multiple languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. On the other hand, The Flash is scheduled for release in India on June 15, a day prior to its North American premiere.
