Alia Bhatt is making headlines after she strongly condemned a viral video claiming her Botox procedure had gone wrong. The actress took to Instagram to address the accusations, labelling them “garbage” and saying they are both “damaging and exhausting.”
The controversy stems from Dr Sai Ganapathy, a facial aesthetics expert, who discussed Alia’s alleged surgery and its supposed side effects in his own video. He pointed out what he described as her “crooked smile,” attributing it to the Botox migrating and causing paralysis on one side of her face.

In her lengthy response, Alia stood up against the body shaming and unfounded gossip surrounding her appearance. She expressed understanding towards anyone who chooses cosmetic procedures but insisted the claims against her were outrageous.
“To the random video floating around literally claiming I’ve had Botox gone wrong (and to the numerous clickbait articles) – I have a ‘crooked smile’ and a ‘weird way of speaking,’ according to YOU,” she wrote.
She highlighted the absurdity of such harsh judgments, particularly when they come without any scientific backing. Alia warned that misleading claims can have serious implications, especially for young, impressionable audiences.
“This is your hypercritical, microscopic judgement of a human face. And now you’re confidently tossing around ‘scientific’ explanations, claiming I’m paralysed on one side? Are you kidding me?” she added.
The actress also discussed the unrealistic beauty standards imposed on women. She lamented that instead of celebrating individuality, society often critiques and objectifies women, putting undue pressure on them to conform.
Alia particularly noted that much of this judgement comes from other women, questioning why there isn’t more support for each other’s choices. She called for a shift away from the normalisation of this toxic behaviour, contrasting it with the idea of “live and let live.”

Hindustan Times spoke to Dr. Sai for his perspective. He said, “It’s her personal opinion; I wouldn’t like to comment on that. I’d rather talk medically.”
He defended his video, clarifying, “It’s just a personal judgement and I have not targeted anyone. These kinds of complications do occur with aesthetic procedures, and it’s nothing to worry about. It’s completely reversible.”
Dr. Sai explained the potential medical reasons behind Alia’s condition. He noted, “When she must have got the Botox done, something might have gone wrong. It’s not a major but a minute complication, which can occur with any injector.” He mentioned that Botox can sometimes migrate to the risorius muscle, causing unusual movements. “When she speaks, the lips will be tilted as seen in the video,” he added.
When asked if public figures like Alia should face scrutiny over their appearances, Dr Sai acknowledged the challenges. “I don’t think it is right, but they are public figures, so there’s more awareness when people see these celebrities getting Botox and something goes wrong. It helps people be more aware that these things can be reversed.”
He believes that discussing cosmetic procedures can have both positive and negative effects on public perception. “It’s encouraging that public figures are speaking openly about lip fillers, etc. The younger generation is now much more aware as they look up to them,” he explained.
