Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is making headlines again. Just last week, it was revealed that Saregama India, owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, was in talks to acquire a majority stake in Johar’s company. However, this deal has yet to reach a conclusion.
Today, the Economic Times reported another twist in the tale.
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries In Talks To Acquire Stakes In KJo’s Dharma Productions
According to the report, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is now in discussions to buy a stake in Dharma Productions. Details about the size of this stake remain unclear. Sources say Karan Johar has been looking to sell a significant portion of his stake for a while now. Unfortunately, past negotiations have faced roadblocks due to disagreements over valuation.
Dharma Productions is predominantly owned by Karan Johar, holding 90.7% of the shares. His mother, Hiroo Johar, owns the remaining 9.24%. If the deal with Reliance Industries goes through, it would greatly enhance RIL’s portfolio in the entertainment sector. Currently, RIL supports Jio Studios, Viacom18 Studios, and Colosceum Media. Additionally, they hold a 25% minority stake in Ektaa R Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms.
Karan Johar Previously Considered Selling Shares To Gautam Adani
This isn’t the first time Karan Johar has considered selling a stake in his production house. It was previously reported that he had discussions with Gautam
Adani about offloading a 30% stake in Dharma Productions. This means that Rocky Aur Rani director is exploring various options to bring investment and expand his company’s reach.
Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has been busy with recent releases. Their latest film, Jigra, featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, hit theatres just a few days ago.
Johar’s company also operates Dharmatic Entertainment, which focuses on producing content for streaming platforms. Last month, they premiered Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday, on Amazon Prime Video.
For the unversed, Dharma Productions is set to release the third season of Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives on Netflix on Oct 18. This season, interestingly titled Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, promises to bring even more drama and glamour to the screen.
