Shershaah, the latest film from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, has received acclaim from both audiences and critics. Even before the Shershaah excitement has died down, we learn that Karan is working on another film that would appeal to your patriotic heartstrings. Dharma Productions’ next film will be based on the biography of Gandhian freedom warrior Usha Mehta.
“Dharma Productions have been developing a number of scripts, and one of them is based on Usha Mehta. The said script has been in the making for the last few years, with the productions house carrying out extensive research about her”, confirms a well-placed industry source to Bollywood Hungama.
“The script is based on the play Khar Khar, written by Amatya Goradia ad Pritesh Sodha, which won Best Script and Best Director Award at IPTA’s Inter-collegiate drama competition, and Karan Johar is looking at roping in Kannan Iyer to direct the venture. As for adapting the play for the screen, Darab Farooqui is working on it,” the source added.
The yet-to-be-titled film will tell a story of Usha Mehta, who managed an underground pirate radio station named Congress Radio during the Quit India Movement and gave the British government a hard time. She was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, after independence, which will almost certainly be included in the film.
