In a film industry known for its meteoric rises and ego clashes, actor Rajesh Kumar, best known as Rosesh from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, is offering a rare spotlight on humility and dedication. His recent reflections on working with debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in Mohit Suri’s blockbuster Saiyaara highlight the newcomers’ grounded nature and professional commitment.
Saiyaara bond built on respect and hard work
Before the cameras rolled, Kumar went a step further than usual: he asked to meet Ahaan and Aneet’s parents. “I just went and thanked them for bringing them up so well and that is what is reflecting on screen. They are not corrupted,” he told Galatta, adding there is “a long way for them to go.”
Recalling Ahaan’s nerves during his first shoot, Kumar said the star kid handled the pressure admirably. “Ahaan was so nervous before his first shot… he did it so well in just the third take. After the shot ended, people clapped for him and then he felt relaxed,” he shared.
Aneet Padda: The scene stealer and Kumar’s Punjabi coach
Kumar also praised Aneet’s preparation, describing her as a “teacher”, especially in helping him nail Punjabi dialogues. “She would speak to me in hardcore Punjabi… asked me to call her ‘puttu’ in place of beta in the movie,” he revealed.
He called both newcomers “pake hue, manjhe kalkaar” (refined artists) and predicted they would stay “relevant for the next 25 to 30 years.”
Apologies, extra takes and breakaway success
Kumar highlighted Ahaan’s professionalism during reshoots: each extra take ended with a sincere apology. “Ahaan would walk forward and apologise. He didn’t have a give up attitude,” he said, pointing to the trust fueling the film’s success.
Since its release on July 18, Saiyaara has shattered expectations, racking up exceptional box office numbers and critical acclaim for its fresh cast and music.
A film rooted in substance beyond big star budgets
The newcomers’ success reflects a broader shift in Bollywood. Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai recently praised Saiyaara for demonstrating that strong storytelling with newcomers can outperform star heavy, high budget films.
