Shahid Kapoor is ready to enthrall audiences once again, as his next gritty collaboration with Vishal Bharadwaj has been officially titled Romeo. The actor, known for his transformative roles, is said to portray a flamboyant gangster – a role far removed from his recent screen persona.
Romeo sets the stage for a gangster with flair
According to a report by Pinkvilla, the project had been juggling alternative names like Arjun Ustara and Evil, but the final title Romeo was locked recently. Shahid’s gangster is described as “colourful” and unlike conventional screen criminals.
Triptii Dimri will step in as the female lead, while a special dance number featuring Disha Patani has already been filmed alongside Kapoor. Production is nearing completion, with principal photography wrapping up soon.
Kapoor, who reunites with Bharadwaj for their fourth collaboration, has reportedly been drawn to the film’s commercial appeal. Sources say Bharadwaj and producer Sajid Nadiadwala promised him “a commercial route for the post‑pandemic audience,” which sealed the deal.
From rugged thriller to rom‑com: Cocktail 2 waits in the wings
Immediately following Romeo, Shahid will switch gears entirely. He’s set to begin filming Cocktail 2 in August, alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna under the direction of Homi Adajania. The sequel to the 2012 cult hit promises fresh chemistry and exotic settings, continuing its legacy of modern relationship drama.
This marks a significant trajectory for Kapoor: from playing a cop in Deva (which failed to make waves at the box office), through a dramatic, gangster-themed transformation in Romeo, and now back into the rom-com genre with a high-profile love triangle.
A powerhouse partnership renewed
Shahid and Bharadwaj’s creative bond has roots in critically acclaimed films like Kaminey (2009), Haider (2014), and Rangoon (2017). With Romeo marking their fourth venture, expectations are high for another bold, compelling cinematic statement.
