Superstar Salman Khan starrer Radhe-Your Most Wanted Bhai released on Eid in a hybrid format. It got released both in cinemas as well as on Zee’s OTT platforms following a pay-per-view model. Although there are official reports that the film did really well on OTT platforms, there is no validity for the same.
Now it is being reported that Zee Studios wants to repeat this hybrid model for other upcoming films, especially the films owned / acquired by Zee Studios. In the cases where the film is owned by Zee Studios, the recovery even if not enough on OTT platforms, the amount can be recouped through their satellite channels.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The industry has now realised that if a film stars a big name, then a simultaneous release in cinemas and on a platform like ZeePlex can be an interesting proposition. Hence, Zee’s top honchos wasted no time and have already approached around 4-5 highly awaited biggies. The makers are in talks with Zee and this shows how widely ZeePlex has got acceptance.”
The source continued, “It is quite possible that makers of Sooryavanshi and ‘83 are in talks. Both these films have been delayed by more than a year. Also, Antim: The Final Truth reportedly will take the hybrid release route. Meanwhile, Maidaan is a film of Zee Studios and it will be in contention. Apart from these, a couple of big-budgeted South films might also be interested.”
Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn is a period biographical sports film based on the golden era of Indian football. It is directed by Badhaai Ho fame, Amit Sharma and produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with Bayview Projects LLP.
Antim: The Final Truth, just like Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai, is produced by Salman Khan Films. Reportedly, Zee Studios is in talks with SKF to acquire this film as well. The film features Aayush Sharma in the lead with Salman Khan in a dynamic supporting role. Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, it is the 2018 remake of the Marathi film, Mulshi Pattern.
