Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 Faces Minor CBFC Changes Ahead Of Release; Dialogue Tweaked To Avoid Political Misinterpretation
Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, one of the year’s most anticipated films, is hitting the headlines — not only for its captivating premise but also for an engaging intervention by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In advance of the film’s release, the CBFC called for some major changes to its dialogue to prevent political issues.
CBFC’s Abridged Changes in Raid 2
Raid 2, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, follows the adventures of ambivalent income tax officer Amay Patnaik, played by Ajay Devgn.
During the certification process, the CBFC requested the removal of an eight-second dialogue at the beginning of the film containing the words “Paisa, hathyar, taakat”.
Additionally, the CBFC flagged certain dialogues referencing “Railway Mantri” and “Bada Mantri”, asking the filmmakers to replace them with more neutral terms like “Mantri” and “Netaji” to avoid potential political affiliations or interpretations.
Notably, no visual cuts were requested, and the film retained its action and violent scenes. With these adjustments, Raid 2 has been granted a U/A certificate, making it suitable for viewers above 12 years old with parental guidance.
With India set to hold a significant election next year, any character even remotely resembling real-life political figures might open a Pandora’s box of conversation. The CBFC’s decision to clean up some characterisation in Raid 2 is part of a larger sensitivity period for politically bent content in 2023.
Since Raid 2 concerns corruption deep within powerful political institutions, it was necessary to keep the film entertaining and believable while not introducing unintended political consequences. The CBFC appears to have navigated the situation well, opting for minor edits instead of direct cuts — a move generally seen as positive in industry circles.
Buzzing Thrill Around Raid 2
Despite the dialogue changes, cinema-goer excitement for Raid 2 remains high. After the sleeper success of Raid (2018) and the audience’s fondness for Ajay Devgn’s noble, responsible officer character, the anticipation has only increased.
Raid 2 is brought to the screen by producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak. It builds a cinematic and entertaining story based on patriotism, drama, and action. With Raj Kumar Gupta returning as director, expectations are that Raid 2 will raise the stakes emotionally and deliver an excellent, impactful story.
