Paresh Rawal On Political Criticism: “Will Listen To Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan”

Paresh Rawal said that while he supports the government, he values and would listen to thoughtful criticism from respected voices like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Naseeruddin Shah.

“I Will Not Ignore People’s Views”

In a media ecosystem that is frequently filled with strong opinions and stark political divides, veteran actor Paresh Rawal provided a rare note of humility and exception. Reports suggest Rawal, an actor who vocally supports the current government, said he is open to criticism coming from individuals he respects in the industry — Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

This quote is particularly relevant when the public discourse around Bollywood and politics routinely becomes exaggerated. Rawal’s nature and expressions feel reasonable and also refreshingly so.

Paresh Rawal clearly indicated that he would not automatically defend anything the government does.

“It is not that I will blindly support the government, no matter what they do. I am not like that.”

He went on to explain that if artists like Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh Khan say something that is qualified enough, he would certainly pay attention.

“If a Naseeruddin Shah or Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh Khan says something, it should be taken on board. They are educated, they have experience, they are sensible. I’ll take on board what they say, and I would even investigate what they say.”

Choosing Credible Voices Over Noise

Without taking names directly, Rawal also highlighted the larger tendency among people to “just criticise for the sake of criticism”.

He argued that part of the issue today is people create unqualified opinions online and off with no understanding, but when a serious artist or serious person gives critique, then it should be something to consider — not just dismissed immediately.

Further, he made a compelling argument: not all critique is propaganda; sometimes it is sincere concern from someone with experience and credibility.

Shah Rukh, Aamir, Naseer: Cultural Icons with a Voice

It is also no coincidence that Rawal chose Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Naseeruddin Shah in particular. All three have spoken about social issues and governance, and all have faced backlash for it at various points.

  • Naseeruddin Shah has been candid in his views about freedom of expression.
  • Aamir Khan once sparked national discourse by calling out “growing intolerance” in a previous interview.
  • Shah Rukh Khan has also expressed the significance of secularism and solidarity.

These are not just celebrities — they are cultural critics who often wear their convictions on their sleeves.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

When Bollywood’s voice is often noisy and politicised, or quiet, a thoughtful position like Paresh Rawal’s is refreshing.

Gesturing to disagreement, encouraging dialogue not denial, and evaluating critical voices are lessons not just for Bollywood but for public discourse as a whole.

In a more and more polarised world, Rawal gives us the reminder that “listening” is probably the most underestimated form of patriotism.
