With Raid 2 just becoming a certified hit, just as the director Rajkumar Gupta confirmed that the tale is not over yet. Recently Gupta confirmed that the Ajay Devgn-led franchise is set to continue with Raid 3, and perhaps the roots of Raid 3 are already embedded within the ending of Raid 2.
“I had written that scene out of fun, but it could start off as the next story,” Gupta said, referring to the now-viral ending where Tauji (Saurabh Shukla) and Manohar Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh) shake hands before heading to jail together.
From Courtrooms to… a Jailhouse Film?
Raid 2 ended on a high moral victory, but Gupta suggests that the sequel to Raid could go down a darker, claustrophobic route — perhaps within a jail.
Plus, if we know anything about character dynamics, this can be fully manipulated by the skill sets of Saurabh Shukla and Riteish Deshmukh.
“His parole is done. He’s back in jail. This guy is entering jail. Dono ko ek jail mein bhej dete hain. Let’s see where it goes,” Gupta teased, suggesting a shared space could spark the narrative engine of Raid 3.
Raid 2 Hits the Jackpot, Ensuring the Franchise Carries On
With a ₹120 crore budget, Raid 2 is already past break-even and just approaching profitability, directly as a result of positive word-of-mouth and no blockbuster competition this week at theatres. Buddha Purnima’s holiday will only help footfalls; furthermore, with Bhool Chuk Maaf being delayed on OTT, it is safe passage for Raid 2 at the box office!
Ajay Devgn’s Reinvention Of The Investigative Hero Archetype
Where the Raid franchise really works — and the key to its longevity — is Ajay Devgn‘s stoic, no-nonsense portrayal of Amay Patnaik, a character vital to the landscape of filmed entertainment. Amay Patnaik is wonderfully grounded in a world of anti-heroes and hyper-real actioners. Devgn’s portrayal of an honest officer not only made Raid a mass-appeal franchise — it developed a franchise identity and tone around realism and credible action.
As Gupta has formally called the developing trilogy the “Raid World”, there is a possibility to create an investigative universe reaching beyond raids — to political corruption, systemic rot, or even prison-industrial storytelling.
BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict
With Raid 2 receiving rave critical praise, financial success and an ending that serves as a hook and cliffhanger — the next logical and exciting chapter in an exceptionally rare investigative franchise is Rajkumar Gupta‘s confirmation of Raid 3. If jail is the battleground, expect Ajay Devgn to use the array of manoeuvres he has used previously to bring justice from inside.
