Ajay Devgn’s next action vehicle is getting a significant identity shift. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Ranger is being retitled Jaan, bringing back one of the actor’s older film titles for a new theatrical outing. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Tamannaah Bhatia, and the change gives the project a more distinctive name as it moves closer to a wider promotional phase.
The move appears designed to tap into nostalgia, considering Jaan was the title of Ajay Devgn’s 1996 action drama directed by Raj Kanwar and co-starring Twinkle Khanna. Released on May 17, 1996, the film emerged as a commercial success and remains one of Devgn’s notable mainstream hits from the mid-1990s. Bringing that title back now gives the new film a familiar ring, especially at a time when Devgn’s recent and upcoming slate has leaned heavily on strong title recognition through films such as Raid 2, Dhamaal 4 and the upcoming Drishyam 3. That makes Jaan an especially interesting choice for a star whose commercially successful phase has often aligned with established or instantly identifiable titles.
Ranger Set To Become Jaan
The film has so far circulated in public media under Ranger, but the latest development is that Jaan is now the title being locked in for the project. The revised name gives the film a more emotional and old-school Hindi film stamp, which stands apart from the more generic action flavour of its earlier title.
For a mainstream theatrical film, that kind of throwback can help shape the mood of the campaign even before the makers unveil the first major promotional asset.
What We Know About The Film
The film is directed by Jagan Shakti and features Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Tamannaah Bhatia in the principal cast. It is backed by Luv Films, Devgn Films and Panorama Studios, and is currently positioned as a 2026 Hindi theatrical release. The project has been indexed as an action-adventure, suggesting a full-scale commercial setup designed for the big screen.
That cast combination gives the film an easy market hook. Devgn and Dutt together in a large-format action space bring immediate weight, while Tamannaah adds another strong mainstream draw to the ensemble.
Ajay Devgn’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Devgn has remained one of Hindi cinema’s busiest stars across the last two years. His 2024 slate included Shaitaan, Maidaan and Singham Again, while Raid 2 kept his sequel momentum going in 2025. On the OTT side, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness remains his key streaming title.
Looking ahead, Jaan joins a line-up that also includes Dhamaal 4, keeping Devgn firmly in the big-screen commercial zone. With multiple recognisable properties still driving his slate, the retitling of Rangers to Jaan looks like a deliberate move to place this film in a stronger and more evocative space before its full public rollout begins.
