Ajay Devgn, fresh off his role in the sports biopic Maidaan, is set to portray another iconic figure in the world of athletics, as reported by Bollywood Hungama. This time, Devgn might bring to life Palwankar Baloo, India’s first Dalit cricketer.
Film producer Priti Sinha announced the news on May 29 2024 via the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ajay Devgn’s Next Film Is Baloo Palwankar Biopic
In her post, Priti Sinha revealed that this project is a collaboration between herself, Devgn, and director Tigmanshu Dhulia. “We are producing Baloo Palwankar’s story based on @Ram_Guha sir’s book A Corner Of A Foreign Field,” she wrote, highlighting their commitment to sharing this historical figure’s story.

The film is inspired by historian Ramachandra Guha’s work. It aims to begin production by the end of 2023. Guha’s book offers an in-depth exploration of Palwankar Baloo’s life and the substantial challenges he faced as a Dalit cricketer.
About Palwankar Baloo
Baloo started his career humbly as a groundskeeper at a cricket club in Pune. However, his remarkable talent soon shone through, leading to his selection for the prestigious Hindu Gymkhana team in 1896, marking the start of a notable cricket career.
Baloo’s story is one of perseverance and triumph over adversity. Throughout his career, he faced significant caste discrimination but managed to make a name for himself in a sport dominated by the upper castes. His achievements and struggles are vividly captured in Guha’s book, which the film seeks to faithfully adapt.

Ajay Devgn, renowned for his powerful performances, is expected to bring depth and nuance to the role of Baloo. This film adds to Devgn’s impressive roster of upcoming projects.
He is also set to star in Neeraj Pandey’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha alongside Tabu and will appear in Rohit Shetty’s action-packed Singham Again.
