Shaitaan 2: Back To Black Magic — A Contentious Decision, Which Path Will Devgn Take?
After audiences watched Shaitaan (2024) and experienced the little sense of doom the movie unleashed with its gripping tale of black magic and matronly reconciliation—and then saw the sequel tease at the end of the movie—their curiosity immediately became speculation.
The story of Shaitaan 2 is now at a fascinating creative crossroads. It must now decide whether to head in another broad direction of original storytelling or adapt into film the second of two sequels titled Vash Level 2, made to the original 2023 independently featured Gujarati film Vash, which is a source film of sorts to Shaitaan.
There are some thoughts from proximity sources about the production saying that Ajay Devgn has in fact decided to go down either path and will not decide until he sees what the audiences think of Vash Level 2, as it is due to launch in theatres this August.
Original Story Vs. Adaptation
Shaitaan straddled its own independent course, in that Vash was a loose adaptation with a considerable number of narrative differences supporting an idiot ending—specifically the final ending.
In Vash, the protagonist’s wife and son die tragically. In Shaitaan, the protagonist Devgn is resigning from his family.
Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan has already finished an original script for Shaitaan 2, which will take the story further on—specifically after the character of R Madhavan is in an underground locked chamber. But Devgn is also dealing with director Krishnadev Yagnik of Vash Level 2 for the rights, in case the Gujarati sequel goes on to do well at the box office.
“Vash Level 2 takes place 12 years later with the evil not having disappeared altogether from daughter. Ajay’s group is seriously considering both storylines,” the source mentioned.
Familiar Faces Return, But Ajay Devgn‘s Role To Become More Serious
Returning again in Shaitaan 2 are Jyotika, Janki Bodiwala, and R Madhavan, and Vikas Bahl is returning as director.
But this time around, it seems that Ajay Devgn may take on a more serious and action-orientated role, compared to his toned-down role for the first film.
“Expect Ajay to be more hands-on this time with the horror and conflict,” the insider said.
Will the Devgn Team Wait a Few Months Before Finalising the Creative Pick?
For now, the Devgn team appears to be in wait-and-see mode before locking into the final story.
Although Shaitaan 2 has started the process of writing, the film’s final shape will depend on how it fares at the box office and the audience response to Vash Level 2 first. If the Gujarati sequel goes well, Devgn may give the green light for an adapted version written by Khan that merges Shaitaan‘s original genesis with the content from Vash Level 2.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Whether it’s new material or a faithful adaptation, Shaitaan 2 is establishing itself as a major franchise starter for Ajay Devgn.
With an ominous legacy and powerful ensemble, the sequel’s final direction will be determined by the state of the box office pulse and the precision of creative direction.
Regardless, however, the devil will be in the details and in Devgn’s decision.
