Ajay Devgn is all set to revisit his beloved Sardaar character in the sequel to the 2012 film “Son of Sardaar“. The upcoming film, titled “Son of Sardaar 2,” is reportedly being developed into a franchise, with a finalized storyline. Production is scheduled to commence in mid-2024.
Choreographer turned Punjabi director to helm Son of Sardaar 2
The latest update reveals that Punjabi filmmaker Vijay Kumar Arora will direct “Son of Sardaar 2.” Ajay Devgn, who produced the first film, actively participates in the development of its sequel. The decision to bring in Vijay Kumar Arora is aimed at narrating the tale of a happy-go-lucky sardar in a distinctly different manner from the first part. Arora, known for his work in Punjabi cinema, has directed hit films like “Harjeeta” (2018), “Baby Dolls” (2019), “Kali Jotta” (2023), and “Godday Godday Chaa” (2023). Son of Sardaar 2 will mark his Bollywood directorial debut after having previously worked as a cinematographer on over 30 Hindi movies. The collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Arora is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise.

“Ajay Devgn was looking for a fresh voice to narrate the tale of a happy-go-lucky sardar in a distinctly different manner from the first part and found an ideal fit in Vijay Kumar Arora, who has already showcased his talent as a comedy movie director with his Punjabi films. Moreover, Ajay is familiar with Vijay’s expertise, as they have collaborated on Mahesh Manjrekar’s Tera Mera Saath Rahen (2001) and Prabhu Deva’s Action Jackson (2014), where Vijay served as a cinematographer. They share an excellent rapport and are excited to embark on this new journey together,” an industry source told Peeping Moon.
Son of Sardaar 2 will feature an entirely new cast and crew, with Ajay Devgn being same in the lead. Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt are not returning in the sequel. The plot details are currently being kept under wraps.
Fans are divided on this news, speculating whether this decision will be profitable for the film. Some express excitement about Arora’s involvement, while others hope for a stylish and fun commercial style similar to the old-time films like “Son of Sardaar” and “Sing is Kinng“.
