Akshay Kumar Not Attached To Salaam-E-Ishq Sequel As Fresh Rumour Around Nikkhil Advani Film Is Dismissed

A whiff of Salaam-e-Ishq nostalgia was all it took for Bollywood chatter to go into overdrive. The moment whispers of a possible sequel began doing the rounds, Akshay Kumar‘s name was quickly folded into the conversation, giving the rumour instant momentum. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the actor is not associated with the project, shutting down the latest wave of speculation around Nikkhil Advani‘s film.

The speed of the rumour says plenty about the staying power of the 2007 title. Salaam-e-Ishq arrived as a glossy romantic drama with intersecting love stories and a star-heavy cast that included Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Govinda, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar. Directed by Nikkhil Advani and backed by Eros International, the film still enjoys recall for its scale, music and ensemble packaging.

Its premise moved through six relationships shaped by heartbreak, marriage, celebrity, compromise and second chances, all within a multi-track narrative format that stood out for mainstream Hindi cinema at the time. That familiarity is precisely why any sequel conversation around the film instantly attracts fan attention and sparks casting assumptions before formal announcements arrive.

Why Akshay Casting Chatter Caught Fire So Fast

While the sequel to Salaam-e-Ishq is reportedly in development, sources have clarified that Akshay Kumar has not signed the film. “The sequel might be happening or may not, but Akshay Kumar has not been involved in it. The reports suggesting he has come on board are completely baseless,” the source confirms.

The buzz did not build in isolation. Akshay remains one of Hindi cinema’s most active stars, and his name is routinely linked to franchise films, comedies and big-banner entertainers the moment a known title resurfaces. Add Nikkhil Advani’s association with a remembered ensemble romance, and the rumour had all the ingredients to travel quickly through fan circles.

It also helps that sequel culture remains a powerful trigger in Bollywood’s current conversation cycle. A film with legacy value, a director audiences recognise and a star whose slate is constantly under watch can turn into a headline within hours. In this case, the nostalgia was real, the curiosity was immediate, and the rumour moved faster than the facts.

Akshay Kumar’s Recent And Upcoming Work

That constant spotlight is also tied to how packed Akshay’s current lineup looks. With multiple commercial projects already in circulation, any fresh title linked to him tends to feel believable at first glance, which is exactly why casting chatter like this gathers steam so quickly.

The source material identifies Bhooth Bangla as his latest release, while an untitled film with Anees Bazmee is already in production. He is also lined up for Welcome to the Jungle, directed by Ahmed Khan, which is scheduled to release in theatres on June 26, 2026. Another confirmed title in his slate is Haiwaan, co-starring Saif Ali Khan, and it is slated for release in 2026.

For now, though, Salaam-e-Ishq sequel is not part of that list. The frenzy may have been powered by nostalgia and Akshay’s busy screen calendar, but the clarification is straightforward: he is not attached to Nikkhil Advani’s film.
