Kapil Sharma And Neetu Kapoor’s Daadi Ki Shaadi Takes A Disaster Start, Remains Under 60 Lakh On Opening Day

Kapil Sharma‘s latest theatrical gamble has stumbled badly at the first hurdle. Daadi Ki Shaadi opened below Rs 60 lakh nett in India on day one, an alarmingly low start for a film sold as a broad family entertainer and led by two familiar names in Kapil Sharma and Neetu Kapoor. For a release that needed instant traction, the opening number has landed like a clear box office rejection.

That result looks even harsher because the film arrived with a simple, accessible setup and without the kind of heavyweight clash that usually crushes a comedy on arrival. Instead of converting that release window into family footfalls, Daadi Ki Shaadi struggled to create urgency among cinema-goers from its very first show. The turnout was far below the level expected from a mainstream Hindi title with recognisable faces.

A Free Run At The Box Office Still Failed To Ignite Interest

The weak start has immediately piled pressure on the film’s theatrical run. Family entertainers usually need a healthy opening day base to build momentum, and Daadi Ki Shaadi did not get that cushion. That leaves the film relying entirely on a sharp weekend jump to stay in the conversation.

Directed by Ashish R. Mohan, the film stars Neetu Kapoor, Kapil Sharma, R. Sarathkumar and Sadia Khateeb. Backed by RTake Studios, BeingU Studios and Shimla Talkies, the Hindi comedy drama revolves around an elderly woman who decides to remarry, triggering upheaval inside her family. On paper, the premise had a crowd-friendly hook. At the ticket window, that promise did not convert into opening-day attendance.

That disappointing start also puts the spotlight back on the lead pair, especially because both actors entered the film with distinct comeback value in the family entertainment space. Kapil Sharma’s last release Kis Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 flopped too badly couple of months back.

Kapil Sharma’s Theatrical Record And The Comeback Stakes For Both Leads

Kapil Sharma’s last theatrical release before Daadi Ki Shaadi was Zwigato in 2023, directed by Nandita Das and co-starring Shahana Goswami. The film earned praise for its grounded storytelling but remained modest at the box office. Before that, he led Firangi in 2017, while his strongest theatrical breakthrough remains Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon from 2015, the comedy that established his draw on the big screen.

On the OTT side, Kapil stayed closely connected to viewers through digital comedy formats rather than a steady film run, which made Daadi Ki Shaadi an important theatrical test. It was positioned as a return to the broad comic zone that best matches his screen image, making this opening-day result particularly damaging.

Neetu Kapoor, meanwhile, was last seen in Jugjugg Jeeyo in 2022 alongside Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. That family entertainer performed well commercially and reaffirmed her ease in ensemble mainstream cinema. Daadi Ki Shaadi therefore carried comeback value for both leads in a genre that should have worked to their strengths, which makes the under Rs 60 lakh start all the more sobering.
