A giant alien creature, international effects talent and Akshay Kumar at the centre of a survival thriller have already made Samuk one of the more intriguing Hindi films in production. That intrigue has now turned into a major milestone, with the film wrapping its extensive UK schedule and preparing to shift to Mumbai for the final 20 days of shoot.
Samuk Nears The Finish Line
Directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures, Samuk is being mounted as a theatrical spectacle that blends science fiction, action and survival. The UK leg began in late August, and the overseas schedule has covered most of the film. Sunshine Pictures has also listed Samuk as a 2027 title on its official slate.
The cast brings together a wide mix of performers, with Rukmini Maitra, Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire, Banita Sandhu and Sushant Singh joining Akshay Kumar. The makers have kept plot details firmly under wraps, but the ensemble suggests a genre film built as much on character interplay as visual scale.
International Creature Design Adds To The Buzz
One of the most striking creative additions to Samuk is Academy Award nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis, whose credits include work connected to the Alien and Predator franchises. His involvement has already helped separate Samuk from the usual Hindi action spectacle.
That detail matters because the film appears to be aiming for a more tactile visual language instead of leaning only on digital imagery. With a central alien creature at the heart of the design, the production has brought in international expertise to shape its screen world in a more grounded way.
Akshay Kumar Reunites With Vipul Amrutlal Shah
Samuk also marks Akshay Kumar’s reunion with Vipul Amrutlal Shah after more than a decade, giving the project an added layer of curiosity within the industry. Co produced by Aashin A. Shah, the film is being positioned as a major theatrical release for 2027.
For Akshay, the project arrives amid a run of varied commercial titles. His recent confirmed releases include Sky Force and Kesari Chapter 2, while his announced slate also features Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle. His last release was Haiwaan.
That is exactly why Samuk stands out right now. It places him in a rare science fiction space, backed by creature design, survival stakes and a visual ambition that could give his filmography a distinctly different turn.
