It was recently reported that Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated C Sankaran biopic has been titled Kesari Chapter 2. Now, fresh reports reveal that its release has been delayed and you will have to wait a bit longer.
Initially set to hit theatres on March 14 (during Holi just like its predecessor, which released on the same date in 2019), the period courtroom drama now faces a pushback.
Dhadak 2 To Take The Release Slot Of Akshay Kumar Starrer
With Kesari Chapter 2 delayed, Dhadak 2 will take its place in the March 14 Holi release slot. Produced by Dharma Productions, the same studio behind Kesari Chapter 2, Dhadak 2 is now confirmed for the new date.
A source close to the production told Bollywood Hungama, “Once they postponed the Akshay Kumar starrer, they decided to not let go of the coveted slot and hence, are all set to bring Dhadak 2 on the Festival of Colours. An official announcement is expected to take place soon.”
Originally scheduled for a November 2024 release, Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, had already been pushed before to February 2025. Now, it looks like the film will have a solo release on Holi, making it a major attraction for the festival.
However, the timing of Holi, which falls during the holy month of Ramadan this year, means the film industry may see fewer releases.
March 2025 Is Quieter With Very Few Releases As Of Now
An insider said, “Holi is a big festival and ideally, two mid-sized films can be accommodated at that time. However, this year, Holi falls during Ramadan. Salman Khan’s Sikandar, a big-scale action film, is slated for release on Eid, just two weeks after Holi. Expect fewer releases in March.”
The shift in release dates has sparked discussions about the timing of upcoming films.
A trade expert said, “February 7 will see two releases—Badass Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa, along with several re-releases. Chhaava arrives on February 14, and Mere Husband Ki Biwi on February 21. After that, there aren’t many major releases until The Diplomat on March 7 and Dhadak 2 on March 14. Even May could see fewer releases due to the IPL, which could cause clashes starting in June.”
About Kesari Chapter 2 and Dhadak 2
Akshay Kumar will star in a biopic about C Sankaran Nair titled Kesari Chapter 2. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film also features Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan.
Unlike the first Kesari, which focused on the Battle of Saragarhi, this movie is a courtroom drama and centres around Nair’s fight for justice for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre victims. It is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire.
On the other hand, Dhadak 2 is the sequel to the 2018 film Dhadak. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the sequel will continue the romance and drama with a fresh story. Triptii and Siddhant will play the lead this time.
