Akshaye Khanna’s Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti Gets Theatrical Release On July 4 — India’s NSG Bravery Returns To The Big Screen

Akshaye Khanna’s Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti, a cinematic retelling of the 2002 temple attack, hits theatres July 4. The patriotic thriller promises gripping action and NSG heroism on the big screen.

In 2021, State of Siege: Temple Attack was released on OTT, and it impressed audiences with its tight narrative and patriotism. Now, the film is being transformed into a larger-than-life spectacle after its journey from digital to theatrical with a new name — Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti. From July 4, 2025, it will be broadcast in cinemas across the country, and the new presentation aims to bring the excitement of this story about courage, sacrifice, and pride for one’s country.

Based on the 2002 Akshardham Temple Attack

The film is directed by Ken Ghosh and is based on the true terror strike that unfolded at Gujarat’s Akshardham Temple in 2002. The film focuses on how India’s National Security Guard responded to the attack and neutralised the threat on a difficult day when they had to work through the chaos, a public scared for their safety, and challenging combat.

An eerie new poster posted on Instagram provides a glimpse into the film: the silhouette of the sacred temple’s broken pillars and the figure of one NSG commando — a lone brave individual, battling through the destruction of a sacred space. Its tagline reads:

An act of terror met with unmatched bravery, the story of courage, sacrifice, and survival comes alive in #AkshardhamOperationVajraShakti“.

  • The screenplay has been written by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo

  • Cinematography by Tejal Shetye
