Alia Bhatt Reinforces Her Box Office Pull As Alpha Opens At Rs 17 Crore Worldwide

Alia Bhatt has opened another film like a star who knows exactly how to command the first day. With Alpha taking a Rs 17 crore worldwide gross start, the actor has once again underlined the kind of theatrical draw that few in her generation can claim with consistency. In a market that watches opening numbers as the quickest test of stardom, Alpha has given Bhatt a strong early win.

That opening matters even more because Alpha is not a conventional star vehicle. It is a female-led action thriller inside the YRF Spy Universe, a franchise built on scale, spectacle and pressure. Bhatt stepping into that arena, with Sharvari alongside her, made the film one of the most closely watched Hindi releases of the month, and the first-day response has put her at the center of the conversation.

Film collected 9.25 crore nett in India in addition to to 6.50 crore gross in overseas which is a fair result considering online negativity around the film.

Alpha Opens With Franchise-Scale Expectations

Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha released in theatres worldwide on July 3, 2026. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, and marks the seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe. Positioned as a slick action thriller, the film follows a highly trained woman pulled into a violent reckoning with the forces that shaped her life.

Ahead of release, Bhatt had spoken about the scale of the experience, saying, “It was a lot of fun, honestly, though it also involved a great deal of hard work. Both Sharvari and I were doing something of this nature for the first time. It was a huge opportunity and a dream come true to perform action sequences on this scale. We underwent extensive training to pull off the scenes. Alpha is a full-on entertainer that audiences will enjoy.”

That quote now lands with added weight. Alpha was always meant to test whether Bhatt could headline a high-concept action film within a major franchise framework. A Rs 17 crore worldwide opening suggests audiences were willing to show up for exactly that experiment.

Alia Bhatt’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Bhatt’s recent filmography reflects both scale and range. In 2024, she led Jigra, also serving as producer. Before that, 2023 saw her top-line Karan Johar’s successful theatrical release Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani opposite Ranveer Singh, followed by her Hollywood debut in Netflix’s Heart of Stone with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.

Her 2022 run remains one of the strongest phases of her career, with Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Netflix’s Darlings and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva all releasing in the same year. That stretch cemented her ability to move between auteur-driven work, franchise cinema and streaming originals without losing box office weight.

After Alpha, Bhatt’s next confirmed film is Love & War, currently listed for 2027. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, it is already one of the most anticipated theatrical titles on her slate. For now, though, Alpha has done what opening days often do best: remind the industry exactly where Bhatt stands.
