Amid Controversy, Producers Changed Intro Of The Kerala Story On YouTube

The Kerala Story, a movie starring Sudipto Sen and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has generated controversy ever since its trailer was released. According to the trailer, “Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32000 females in Kerala” are told in the movie. The teaser’s description was altered by the film’s creators when the debate surrounding it heated up.

Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair used his Twitter account to draw attention to modifications made to the teaser trailer for “The Kerala Story”‘s YouTube description. The teaser video’s original description stated: “Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32000 girls in Kerala! “Coming Soon!”

In November 2022, the teaser was posted to YouTube. Adah Sharma portrays a woman wearing a burqa as she recalls her life as a Hindu woman called Shalini Unnikrishnan who aspired to become a nurse. She also claims to have assumed the name Fatima Ba and to be an ISIS terrorist who is presently being held in an Afghan jail. She said that 32000 more females had undergone conversion to Islam and had been taken to Yemen and Syria.

Reaction From The Kerala State Committee

Several Malayalees, including ministers from Kerala, have criticised the film’s teaser and trailer for making false claims. Some have even promised rewards to anyone who can provide evidence to support the claims made in the movie. The Kerala State Committee of Muslim Youth League has now offered a prize of Rs 1 crore to anyone who can provide evidence to support the claims made in the movie. According to ANI, collecting sites for doing so would be created in every district on May 4.”Prove the claims that 32,000 Keralites migrated to Syria after becoming Christians. Accept the challenge and provide the supporting documentation, the committee’s poster urged.

“I’m paying 11 lakh rupees to anyone who publishes details on the names and addresses of women who joined the Islamic State after being converted to Islam by Keralan Muslim youngsters. 32 is plenty; there is no need to provide evidence for 32,000 women, S. Shukkur stated on his Facebook page.

He said that the “only reported cases to have joined ISIS from outside the Muslim community from Kerala” were the three ladies who married two brothers who were locals of Palakkad. “Everyone should stop blaming a community and a state without any proof about the ‘love jihad’ case, which was even dismissed by the High Court,” he continued.

Adah Sharma plays the protagonist in the Vipul Amrutlal Shah-produced movie, which will debut on May 5.
