Amid Kanguva Controversy, Tamil Nadu Producers Council Call For Ban On YouTube Fan Reviews In Theatres

The Tamil Film Active Producers Association has called for a ban on YouTube fan reviews filmed in theatres, citing their negative impact on recent Tamil films like Kanguva, Indian 2, and Vettaiyan.

The Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) has called for a ban on YouTube fan reviews filmed in theatres, following the controversy around recent Tamil films. The producers’ council believes that these reviews have hurt the box office performance of movies like Indian 2, Kanguva, and Vettaiyan.

The call comes after Kanguva, starring Suriya, faced heavy criticism on social media. Fans criticised the film’s plot and accused the makers of overhyping the movie.

Tamil Producers’ Council Seeks Ban On YouTube Reviews In Theatres

Industry insider Rajasekar shared that the producers’ council issued a letter condemning the practice of filming and sharing fan reviews from theatres. These reviews were called “tasteless and hostile” and were said to have negatively impacted the films’ reception.

In their letter, the producers’ council raised concerns about personal attacks on filmmakers and actors.

“Critics have every right to review movies. But we request all journalists to write film reviews keeping in mind that hatred towards a film should not be sown in the media because of personal malice,” the letter reads.

They also asked that reviews focus on the movie’s content, not personal attacks on those involved in its making.

Council Also Urges To Stop FDFS Public Review

In response, the producers’ council is urging the industry to take action. They want the trend of filming “FDFS public reviews” (First Day, First Show) and posting them online to stop. They believe these reviews create bias, affecting a film’s success before audiences can form their own opinions.

About Kanguva Controversy

Kanguva was released on November 14 amidst high expectations, but soon after, it became surrounded by controversies and negative reactions. The day after the release, Suriya’s wife, actress Jyothika, defended the film, suggesting that the negative reviews were part of “multiple group propagandas.”

It includes a star-studded cast of Suriya, Bobby Deol and Disha Patani. Directed by Siva, the film also features Karthi, Aarash Shah, Yogi Babu, Prakash Raj, and others in important roles.
