As Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Prepares for Release, Big B Offers a Boost of Confidence
As Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par prepares for its theatrical release on June 20th, the star revealed he received huge emotional support from Amitabh Bachchan. While everyone around him was suggesting he take the “safe” route and release the film on OTT, Big B encouraged Aamir that he has always been a risk-taker for Indian cinema.
“You’re a risk-taker”: Big B Tells Aamir He Should be Confident
During a recent interview, as a part of a larger group, Aamir Khan said it was not easy to take the plunge towards a theatre-only release.
“Everyone was saying the standard way,” Aamir said. “But that night I met Mr Bachchan, and I told him all my fears. He looked at me and said, ‘Why aren’t you doing it? You’ve always taken risks. You’re a risk taker.”‘
That was it. After the words of encouragement from the legendary actor, everything changed and Aamir felt confident in his decision to follow his vision for Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir said, “That conversation was a real uplift. It made me realise why I make the choices I make.”
“I Want Audiences To Go To Theatres,” Aamir Khan Declares
While OTT offers came in too – including one apparently worth ₹125 crore – he declined them all. “OTT is fine, but I felt releasing a movie just 8 weeks after theatrical release is not right for the theatrical experience,” he explained.
“I would have been happy with a six-month gap. But not less.”
“I want audiences to go to theatres,” he stated. “I believe in cinema. I believe in my audience.”
About Sitaare Zameen Par: An Emotional Sports Drama
Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by R.S. Prasanna and is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones. The film stars Aamir Khan, who plays a disgraced basketball coach who must coach a team of players that have intellectual disabilities as part of a sentence from the courts. It acts as a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s famous 2007 film Taare Zameen Par.
The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh and includes a host of newcomers in the form of Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar, and others.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
While there’s no reason to take box office risks anymore as streaming and its safety net face the world, Aamir Khan is staying true to his convictions over convention. With Amitabh Bachchan’s reminder ringing in his ears, “You are a risk-taker”, Sitaare Zameen Par is no longer just a film; it represents a stand for storytelling in its purest theatrical form.
Come June 20, the big screen will be, for a change, for cinema lovers — just like Aamir wanted.
