The sequel to Andaaz (2003) is finally happening. Fans got a sneak peek with the teaser on January 31, followed by the release of songs like “Tere Bin Kahin Dil Na Lagey,” “You’re Beautiful,” and “Ishq Junooni Hai.”
During a recent interview, director-producer Suneel Darshan shared insights on the film, its fresh cast, and what to expect.
Why Andaaz 2 After 22 Years?
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Suneel Darshan said there was no planned reason for making the sequel. He felt the title Andaaz 2 fit well with the story. It is not a continuation of the first film, but it shares a similar storytelling style. Like Andaaz, this film is also a musical love triangle with even more to offer.
Suneel Darshan On Why He Chose To Cast Newcomers Again
The film introduces new talent just like the original did. The lead actor Aayush Kumar joined the project unexpectedly. Darshan was casting for the supporting roles when he met Aayush. He soon realised Aayush could be the lead. The actor was unaware at first that he had landed the main role.
The connection between Andaaz starring Akshay Kumar and Andaaz 2 featuring Aayush Kumar is purely coincidental. Darshan wanted to bring in fresh talent, just like before.
The film stars Aayush Kumar and Aakaisha as newcomers, while Natasha Fernandez (who previously worked with Darshan) plays an important role. The director hopes this launch will be as successful as it was for Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta in Andaaz.
On Recreating Famous Line From Original With A Little Tweak
The sequel blends romance, drama, comedy, and action. While it has more action than the first film, Darshan clarified that Andaaz 2 is not an action film. The original had minor action sequences, and the sequel has a bit more. However, it remains a social, romantic film with a unique story that he prefers to keep under wraps for now.
Music plays a crucial role in the film, with Nadeem composing the songs. A famous line from the original song “Yehi toh dil churane ka andaaz hota hai” has been recreated with slight changes in lyrics. Darshan believes that certain elements should carry forward in a sequel if they blend naturally with the story.
The soundtrack features a mix of legendary and fresh voices. Shaan returns for one track, while Neeraj Shridhar, Javed Ali, Palak Muchhal, Asees Kaur, Amit Mishra, Mohd Irfan, and Shadab Faridi add to the lineup.
Andaaz 2 Trailer Release Timeline
The trailer for Andaaz 2 is expected to be released around Eid, about three to four weeks before the film’s premiere.
