Yash Chopra’s romantic drama Lamhe (1991) starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi is returning to cinemas on March 21, 2025.
PVR INOX shared the news on Instagram and wrote, “Some love stories never fade…Experience the timeless magic of Lamhe back on the big screen at selected PVR INOX cinemas from Mar 21.”
Anil Kapoor also expressed his excitement. He shared an IG story and wrote, “Timeless then, timeless now! Watch #Lamhe on the big screen from March 21!”
Why Lamhe Was Ahead Of Its Time?
When Lamhe was released in 1991, its unconventional love story sparked conversations. The film had a moderate box-office run in India but later gained cult status. It won multiple awards, including Filmfare’s Best Film and Best Actress for Sridevi.
The story follows Virendra ‘Viren’ Pratap Singh (Anil Kapoor), a young man who falls for an older woman Pallavi (Sridevi). But Pallavi loves someone else and marries him. After her tragic death in an accident, Viren distances himself from her daughter Pooja. Years later, Pooja grows up looking exactly like her mother. She falls for Viren, leading to a complex love story that defies societal norms.
Anil Kapoor: Upcoming Projects
The Lamhe re-release comes at a busy time for Anil Kapoor. He will next be seen in Subedaar, directed by Suresh Triveni. The film’s teaser has already created a buzz, showcasing him in an intense new role. He also has War 2 and Alpha lined up.
With over four decades in the industry, Anil Kapoor has appeared in more than 100 films. He has won two National Film Awards and continues to explore diverse roles. From Mr India and Tezaab to Slumdog Millionaire and Animal, he has consistently reinvented himself in Bollywood.
His last big-screen appearance was in the crime thriller Savi, directed by Abhinay Deo. The film also starred Divya Khossla and Harshvardhan Rane.
