Android Kunjappan Version 5.25, a critically acclaimed Malayalam film from 2019, is the latest to be added to the growing list of South films likely to be remade in Bollywood. An entertainment portal has discovered exclusively that Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s science fiction comedy-drama will be remade in Hindi and will star Anil Kapoor in the lead role. The original, which starred Suraj Venjaramoodu and Soubin Shahir in the key roles, is already being recreated in Tamil by KS Ravikumar, and a Telugu remake is set to begin filming soon with Mohan Babu in the lead role.
According to sources, Faith Films producer Viki Rajani has secured the Hindi remake rights to Android Kunjappan Version 5.25. In this film, Anil Kapoor will play a traditional, conservative small-town peasant, and the film will be directed by a first-time director. The project is now in the screenplay stage and is anticipated to begin production later this year.
The narrative of Android Kunjappan Version 5.25 centres around an elderly man and the unexpected bond he makes with a robot sent by his son to look after him when he relocates to Russia for work. The Malayalam drama was praised for its innovative and engaging plot, refreshing humorous portions, and novel characterization, and was loosely inspired by the 2012 Hollywood film Robot & Frank.
Anil Kapoor will reprise the character of Suraj Venjaramoodu, who portrayed the major role of an obstinate old man who is very hesitant to adapt to any new-age technology in the Hindi adaptation, which is likely to keep loyal to the original.
