Anil Sharma has confirmed that Gadar 3 will not be happening anytime soon, even after the huge success of Gadar 2. In an interview, the director shared that he is now focusing on a love story, a genre he’s excited to explore next. He also reflected on the ups and downs of his career, including the reception of his latest film, Vanvaas.
After the success of Gadar 2, which took the box office by storm, Sharma followed it up with Vanvaas, starring Nana Patekar and his son Utkarsh Sharma.
Unfortunately, the film did not perform well in terms of box office numbers or critical reception. Despite this, Anil Sharma remains optimistic and takes full responsibility for the outcome of his films.
Speaking to OTT Play, “Whatever happens with the film is my responsibility. If the film does very well, it’s a team effort, but if it fails to meet expectations, then it’s my responsibility. Maybe I did not do something right.”
Sharma also addressed the ongoing “noise” around his films. He revealed that over the years, many people have told him not to do certain things in his movies, but he has always trusted his instincts.
Anil Sharma Confirms Gadar 2 Will Take Time To Happen
Now, Sharma’s plans seem to be taking a new direction. When asked about Gadar 3, he confirmed that while the film will eventually happen, it’s not in the immediate future.
“We will eventually do Gadar 3, but there is time for that,” he said.
Instead, he is eager to return to the emotional family drama genre. He recalled his debut film, Shradhanjali, and how it deeply impacted audiences. He described Vanvaas as his “homecoming” to that genre.
Director Wants To Make A Film On Love Story
The most exciting revelation came when Sharma shared his desire to make a love story next. “I want to make a love story, and I will do that too.”
Though he kept details under wraps, he admitted that he already has an idea for the film. He said, “Baat karenge na jab baat karenge. Ab to Vanvaas ki baat hai.” (We will talk when the time is right; right now, we are discussing Vanvaas.). Idea kyu nahi hai? Idea to hai lekin baat karenge.”
For the unversed, Anil Sharma’s Vanvaas was released on December 20, but it failed to perform at the box office and didn’t make any impact.
