‘Stop Posturing, You Liar!’ – Anurag Kashyap’s Explosive Response to Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘Drunkard’ Allegation Sparks Bollywood Storm!

From what was once a forgotten football drama to now the epicenter of a new-age Bollywood feud, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is making headlines again — but not for goals scored on the pitch. Anurag Kashyap’s searing Instagram Story and Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘alcoholic’ claims have set the film fraternity buzzing.

In another heated Bollywood backlash, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has responded with harsh criticism to The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri’s recent comments. The drama erupted after an interview in which Agnihotri accused Kashyap of being drunk and out of control while filming the 2007 football drama Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal.

Kashyap Fires Back

Kashyap, who directed infamous cult films such as Black Friday (2004), Dev.D (2009), and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), did not hold back when he took to Instagram to deny the accusations, claiming Vivek Agnihotri had “lied through his teeth”. Kashyap refuted any presence on set in London and explained:

Kashyap’s Instagram Rant: “Kitna Jhootha Hai Ye Aadmi”

In his Instagram story, Anurag wrote:

“Kitna jhootha hai ye Aadmi. Shooting London mein hui thi. I was in India. He didn’t want the script by Motwane or me. He wanted Lagaan of football and took his own writer to write that trashy script. Neither I, nor @motwayne went on the set ever. Stop posturing @vivekagnihotri.”

Motwane Backs Kashyap

In support of Kashyap’s version of events, Vikramaditya Motwane — who was also a co-writer of the film — reposted the story to his own Instagram, thus approving the fact that both stayed “far, far away from the movie production”.

What Did Vivek Agnihotri Say?

In a resurfaced snippet from an interview , Vivek claimed:

“Anurag used to drink a lot back then… He brought Vikramaditya Motwane into the scene and did not give him any direction or vision. The movie I wanted to make was very different. Things became uncontrollable. Anurag was out of control.”

However, these claims have now been publicly contested.

The Film at the Center of the Controversy

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, which starred John Abraham and Arshad Warsi, followed the journey of a group of aspiring and seasoned football players who were part of the UK’s South Asian community. Kashyap was credited with dialogue writing and Motwane with screenplay writing, provided both Kashyap and Motwane only provided a script.

Bollywood’s Culture Wars Continue

This topsy-turvy predicament adds another chapter to the ongoing culture wars unfolding across Bollywood, where political positions, personal histories, and creative differences regularly erupt into the public space.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict

Bollywood’s off-screen drama has turned up the messiness lever. Anurag Kashyap’s recent spoken rebuttal at Vivek Agnihotri is not only a personal retort — it’s also a clear exercise in recovering credibility as the lead narrative. With Vikramaditya Motwane supporting him, the onus is now on Vivek. Expect further rounds of rhetorical exchanges and perhaps yet another round of controversy-driven headlines.
