Arshad Warsi is stepping back into one of his most loved screen identities, and this time the Jolly LLB universe is moving in an unexpected direction. As per reports in Variety India, Jolly LLB 4 is being mounted as a prequel, with Umesh Shukla taking over directing duties for the new chapter.
The Latest Update On Jolly Llb 4
The fourth film in the franchise is currently in the final stretch of pre-production, with the shoot expected to wrap by January 2027. The makers are also still finalising the title, but the bigger creative move is already clear: instead of pushing the story ahead, the new film travels back into the earlier phase of Jolly’s journey.
That choice gives the franchise a distinct new narrative lane after Jolly LLB 3, which brought together Warsi’s Jagdish Tyagi and Akshay Kumar’s Jagdishwar Mishra in the same courtroom. After that crossover chapter, the prequel format allows the series to return to the character foundations that first made Jolly such a crowd favourite.
Why Umesh Shukla’s Entry Matters
Until now, the Jolly LLB films have been closely associated with Subhash Kapoor, who wrote and directed the earlier instalments. Umesh Shukla’s arrival marks the first major directorial handover for the franchise, and it instantly changes the texture of what audiences may expect from the next film.
Shukla is best known for OMG: Oh My God! and 102 Not Out, two films that balanced mainstream storytelling with social observation and humour. That sensibility makes him an intriguing fit for a franchise that has long mixed courtroom conflict with satire and emotional punch.
The earlier films built their identity around legal face-offs, class commentary and sharply timed comic relief, often anchored by Saurabh Shukla’s memorable judge. The prequel format also creates space for familiar characters from the first film to re-enter the story in a way that feels organic to the franchise timeline.
What The Jolly Llb Franchise Has Built So Far
Warsi launched the franchise with Jolly LLB in 2013, playing the underdog lawyer who fought a high-stakes legal battle with wit, instinct and chaos in equal measure. The film struck a chord for its blend of humour, courtroom drama and social bite.
The franchise later expanded with Akshay Kumar taking the lead in Jolly LLB 2, before Jolly LLB 3 united both lawyers for a larger face-off. That crossover chapter widened the world of the series, and now the prequel appears ready to revisit the setup that first gave the franchise its identity.
Arshad Warsi’s Recent And Upcoming Work
In the last phase of his career, Warsi has continued to balance franchise cinema with comic and character-driven parts. His most recent major release in this space was Jolly LLB 3 in 2025, where he returned as Jagdish “Jolly” Tyagi opposite Akshay Kumar. He was also part of Dhamaal 4, which released in 2026 and keeps him inside another long-running comedy brand. He will be next seen in a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s King.
With Jolly LLB 4, Warsi heads into a fresh chapter that could reshape the tone of the series by looking backward instead of forward. For a franchise built on satire, courtroom drama and sharply drawn characters, that creative reset may define its next phase.
