Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is known for her exceptional storytelling and has directed acclaimed films such as Nil Battey Sannata, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Panga. She is also a talented writer and recently released her debut novel, Mapping Love. Although she hasn’t announce anything, but as per another publication, she has reportedly locked her next film.
The film will be produced by Jio Studios and will be based on Kishwar Desai’s novel, The Longest Kiss: The Life and Times of Devika Rani. The book delves into the life of Devika Rani, known as the “first lady of Indian cinema” and her remarkable contributions to the industry. Devika Rani was extremely beautiful and talented. She was titled the ‘First Lady of Indian Cinema’ by her fans. Himanshu Rai, on the other hand, was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema, an actor par excellence, a star, and an astute businessman. In 1934, the duo went on to set up Bombay Talkies, India’s first professional film studio that dominated cinema in India for a decade
Interestingly, Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai’s Bombay Talkies was also an inspiration behind the hit series, Jubilee directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.
About the novel, “The Longest Kiss: The Life and Times of Devika Rani”
The Longest Kiss: The Life and Times of Devika Rani is a biography of the late actress Devika Rani Choudhuri, who was active in Hindi films during the 1930s and 1940s. The book is written by Kishwar Desai and published by Westland. The biography is a remarkable story of a woman who lived well before her time. It is largely built on 4,000 personal letters and studio documents, neatly kept aside by Devika Rani as advised by her second husband, Svetoslav Roerich.
Ashiwiny Tiwari To Adapt The Book
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is currently writing the film and is expected to take it on floors early next year. Jio Studios is planning to make it a magnum opus that will be mounted on a huge scale. The research and writing are currently in full swing, and it will take some time to finish the script. They are simultaneously pitching it to actors; however, no one has been finalized yet,” a source was quoted.
The director is apparently also working on several other projects, including the biopic of Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy, which was announced in 2020, and a two-heroine film with Excel Entertainment, which is likely to star Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani.
“All these films are currently in the writing stage, and although Ashwiny is committed to them, she will decide on her next film depending on which one materializes first. The Devika Rani story seems to be her priority at this moment, but in case things don’t fall into place as planned, she could take on others project as well,” the source further clarified.
