After years of speculation and covert excitement amongst fans, Emraan Hashmi has confirmed that Awarapan 2 is not only happening — it’s in preparation to hit the floors very soon!
The eagerly awaited follow-up to the cult 2007 classic Awarapan will ensure a return to the violent and brooding world of the film that made fans fall in love with the original.
Years in the Making: Awarapan 2‘s Long Wait Is Coming
In a recent interview, Emraan Hashmi shared that the script for Awarapan 2 has been years in the making.
He revealed that everyone, including the writer Shagufta Rafique and producer Mukesh Bhatt, took a considerable amount of time to ensure it matched the emotional and narrative intensity of the original film — or went even bigger.
“It took about three to four years of chasing the right script. We knew we had to be even more emotionally intense if Awarapan had to come back,” Emraan stated.
The actor, known for embodying complex characters with raw emotional showcases, added to his excitement that he may be returning to a universe that audiences still uphold against their favourite body of work.
When Will Awarapan 2 Start Filming?
Fans will be pleased to know that Emraan Hashmi isn’t making them wait much longer — he confirmed that Awarapan 2 will begin shooting in the fourth quarter of 2025, with plans to release it in 2026.
While we await an official announcement on the complete cast and director, Emraan stated that Awarapan 2 will maintain some of the dark, soul-searching tonality exhibited in the previous film but with new characters and new layers.
How Awarapan Remains a Cult Classic
Released in 2007 under the Vishesh Films umbrella, Awarapan is one of Emraan Hashmi’s most praised and reviewed performances.
The film’s story of love, loss, guilt, and redemption deeply struck a chord with its audience, garnering it cult status in the years since — especially among its young audience that lingered on it for its touching story and poetic soundtrack.
With themes of personal sacrifice and inner turmoil, Awarapan was a far cry from standard Bollywood thrillers, exploring emotional circumstances that were rarely touched upon in mainstream cinema at the time.

Although Emraan didn’t elaborate on any plot points, he did assure that the sequel will keep faith with the essence of Awarapan
