We’re excited to announce one of the best collaborations of the year!
Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has signed on as executive producer of Neeraj Ghaywan’s upcoming film Homebound!

The film will have its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the competitive Un Certain Regard section.

Scorsese’s Rare Stamp of Approval on an Indian Film

Discussing the collaboration, Martin Scorsese said:

“I saw Neeraj’s first film Masaan in 2015 and I loved it, so when Mélita Toscan du Plantier sent me the project of his next film, I was curious. Then I read the story, the culture and I wanted to help. Neeraj has made a beautiful film and it is going to make a real contribution to Indian cinema. I’m glad the film is an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year and I am excited to see it.”

It’s a huge deal for a filmmaker of Scorsese’s stature — named for classics like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and The Irishman — to attach himself to an Indian project.
People in the industry feel that this might open up the path Indian indie cinema needs for new international opportunities.

Ghaywan’s Emotional Return to Cannes After Masaan

Neeraj Ghaywan is returning to the Croisette a decade after his highly regarded film Masaan won two awards at Cannes.

On the prestige and honour of working with Scorsese, he said:

“To have an icon like Mr. Scorsese attached to Homebound is a privilege and honor beyond expression. Mr. Scorsese mentored us as we embarked on the screenplay and through rounds of cuts. He listened deliberately, synthesized the cultural context, and each time he returned thoughtful incisive notes.”

With Scorsese’s mentorship, along with Ghaywan’s master storytelling ability, Homebound has the chance to tell a deeply emotional human relationship story against India’s contemporary social situation.

Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla Back This International Dream

Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, and with Marijke deSouza and Mélita Toscan du Plantier co-producing, Homebound is the perfect example of Indian cinema converging with globalised needs.

Showing his excitement, Karan Johar remarked:

“Homebound is an extraordinary coalescing of talent, vision and storytelling at its best. To have Martin Scorsese, a true film legend, offer his support and wisdom to Neeraj’s incredible vision pushes our film to an artistic pinnacle that is rare.”

With its supreme creative team and Cannes world premiere, Homebound is already being tipped as one of the strongest films coming from India on the international awards circuit.

Global Distribution Already Secured

Homebound has obtained French distribution from Ad Vitam, an acclaimed distributor that has backed several Oscar-winning films like A Fantastic Woman and Son of Saul.

This move positions the film strongly not just at Cannes and in European markets, but also for a global presence.

With Martin Scorsese’s blessing, a Cannes 2025 world premiere, and a story filled with heart, humour, and chaos, Homebound might be the film that cements Neeraj Ghaywan’s place on the global filmmaking map.

This is not just a film release — it’s an occasion for Indian cinema to revel in the world’s spotlight in a way it has never been able to before.
