In what is set to be the biggest action flick of 2025, there is an amazing responsibility that War 2 director Ayan Mukerji has accepted by entering YRF’s spy universe. As everyone knows, the build-up of the sequel to the 2019 box-office sensation War has unrealistic expectations to deliver. Shown with a return of Hrithik Roshan as Kabir, War 2 sees the actor level up against Jr NTR, who is also entering the YRF universe as well.
Honouring The Original While Still Making It His Own
Ayan explains his experience:
“It is a huge responsibility to carry forward a very loved franchise of War and still put your own stamp on it. When I saw WAR 2 was sort of a relishing opportunity to salute the original film and make my neighborhood stamp. You just cannot have fun anyway while walking into such massive blockbuster franchises.”
Everyone knows Ayan is a creative genius, having demonstrated the ability with Brahmastra and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and yet War 2 is his first fully-fledged action thriller. He made the point that paying respect to the original while building something new and exciting was absolutely key.
Creating A Confrontation Worthy Of Titans: Hrithik vs Jr NTR
What makes War 2 so much fun is its featured confrontation between two huge stars of Indian cinema, and Ayan explained:
“You have to take what’s being setup, and then take the for the film, and the fans of these two huge superstars of our country on a journey that is different, that hopefully leaves them craving for more. I was committed to making them feel that as a director.”
According to Mukerji, the story is carefully designed to justify the magnitude and stakes of the Hrithik vs Jr NTR ultimate faceoff and is set to be the most action-packed fight Indian cinema has produced in some time.
A Real Big Screen Event Film
Ayan explained more effort was put into the planning of the action set pieces and the writing of the plot conflict than anything else and designed the film in a way the scales from the cinema could be the biggest ones possible:
“Everything about War 2 has been planned with a lot context so that the performance of the film in the cinema can be elevated. The maximum amount of time spent was on the action set pieces and constructing the story and the conflict that was needed to justify bringing Hrithik Roshan vs Jr NTR.”
He referred to War 2 as a celebration of Indian cinema:
“This is really the consolidation of Indian cinema with these two gigantic actors working together. Every second of our time has been focused on figuring out how to give fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they go to theatres.”
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
With Ayan Mukerji at the helm of his epic clash two years in the making, War 2 expects to set the bar for the action blockbuster in India.
The project is a wide-ranging cinematic moment, involving exhaustive planning to execute the Hrithik vs Jr NTR clash on a massive scale.
