Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s first on screen pairing is finally gathering real momentum, and it is doing so with the kind of scale Bollywood reserves for its big, crowd pleasing moments. The yet untitled spy comedy, backed by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, has moved swiftly through the last leg of production over the past few weeks, with the makers mounting a lavish patriotic song sequence that signals the finish line is now firmly in sight.
After an early schedule wrapped in 2024, the film’s progress had slowed, but the unit has since returned to a packed shooting plan, and the leads have already completed an extensive Mumbai schedule. The latest development places the film in its final stages, with only a small portion left before the director calls it a wrap.
The Latest Update
As part of the February schedule in Mumbai, Ayushmann and Sara shot a large scale track titled Jai Hind, designed as a vibrant set piece built around Independence Day celebrations. While the original plan was to shoot across real locations in Delhi and Mumbai, the makers eventually recreated the atmosphere on a set at Madh Island in Mumbai.
According to information shared by those close to the production, the song features more than 700 dancers and junior artistes and is staged as a colourful depiction of an Independence Day parade. The track was filmed over two days, and it is positioned at a crucial point in the narrative, giving the film a big theatrical moment that blends spectacle with story.
With this set piece completed, the project is now said to be down to an end credit number that remains to be filmed. Once that final song is in the can, the film will be ready for wrap.
The film is directed by Aakash Kaushik, who is making his feature directorial debut. The project has been mounted as a spy comedy, a genre that allows both its leads to play to their strengths while still delivering scale through action, music, and set pieces. The makers are eyeing a mid 2026 release window.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Ayushmann was last seen in the theatrical hit Dream Girl 2 (2023), which marked a strong commercial return for the actor. Before that, he headlined Doctor G (2022) and the action thriller An Action Hero (2022), both of which showcased him in lighter and more offbeat spaces respectively.
Sara Ali Khan’s recent slate includes Murder Mubarak (2024) and the direct to streaming patriotic drama Ae Watan Mere Watan (2024). In 2025, she featured in Sky Force. With this spy comedy now nearing completion, the actress adds another mainstream commercial title to her lineup, alongside her future commitments.
