At a time when even big-ticket titles struggle to hold screens beyond a few weeks, Dhurandhar has pulled off a throwback-style feat. The first instalment has not only stayed alive in cinemas deep into its run, it has also set up an unusually smooth bridge into its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, with a theatrical handover that has become a talking point across the trade.
The first part of Dhurandhar, which released on December 5, 2025, reached its 100-day milestone on March 14, 2026. In the post-Covid era, where theatrical windows have tightened and audience viewing habits have shifted sharply to streaming, this kind of sustained run has become increasingly rare.
The Latest Update
In the days leading up to the sequel’s release, Jio Studios increased the show count for Dhurandhar Part 1 and also brought it back to several cinemas where it had already ended its run. The strategy is clearly designed to offer audiences a big-screen refresher before the next chapter lands.
An official communication dated March 12 stated that Dhurandhar Part 1 was then playing in 1,000-plus screens worldwide with more than 1,250 shows, indicating a notable global footprint for a film that has already completed a full theatrical cycle in most cases.
Crucially, Dhurandhar Part 1 is slated to continue in cinemas until the afternoon of March 18, 2026, after which it will be replaced by Dhurandhar: The Revenge. This effectively makes it a rare example of a first instalment staying on screens right up to the sequel’s arrival, turning the release corridor into one continuous runway of buzz.
The longevity is even more striking considering the film also debuted on Netflix around a month and a half ago, a point after which theatrical footfalls usually see a sharp drop. Yet, the film continued to draw steady audiences in select pockets, helping it maintain a presence that is now being amplified through the re-release push.
The Films At A Glance
Both Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge are written and directed by Aditya Dhar and backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The franchise is positioned as a high-octane action drama featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead, alongside an ensemble that includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. The sequel continues the story from Part 1, with the narrative centred on Ranveer Singh’s character navigating an undercover mission.
