Bandar Release Date Changed: Bobby Deol’S Anurag Kashyap Film Now Heads For A June 5 Showdown With Toxic

The first weekend of June has suddenly found its face-off. Just as Yash’s Toxic prepares to storm into theatres on June 4, Bobby Deol and Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar has shifted from May 22 to June 5, setting up a back-to-back release frame that instantly raises the heat on the box office calendar.

That revised date gives Bandar a far sharper spotlight heading into release. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, where it emerged as one of the more closely watched titles from Kashyap’s recent line-up, and its theatrical arrival now comes with the added intrigue of landing in the shadow of a major star vehicle.

Why Bandar’s New Date Changes The Early June Race

The makers have officially repositioned Bandar for June 5, turning it into one of the key talking points of the early summer slate. Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the film casts Bobby Deol as Samar, a fading television star accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend and taken into judicial custody. From there, the story tracks the collapse of a public persona under the pressure of scandal, law and scrutiny.

The cast includes Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, Sapna Pabbi, Raj B. Shetty, Sukant Goel and Indrajith Sukumaran. With its central character caught between celebrity and criminal accusation, Bandar enters theatres as a film driven by performance and conflict rather than franchise scale.

A Darker Character Study From Anurag Kashyap

Backed by Saffron Magicworks and Zee Studios, with Zee Studios also handling distribution, Bandar is framed as a tense, character-led drama rooted in fame, accusation and the fragility of image. That emotional terrain fits naturally within Kashyap’s filmography, which has often returned to damaged men, public violence and private ruin.

Here, the spotlight stays fixed on Bobby Deol’s Samar, making the role central to the film’s impact. Rather than operating as an ensemble spectacle, Bandar builds its weight around one man’s spiral and the consequences that follow. That makes the project a natural extension of the actor’s recent appetite for darker, more disruptive parts.

Bobby Deol’S Busy Reinvention Continues

That intensity also connects neatly with the phase Bobby Deol is in right now, one defined by sharp pivots across big-ticket commercial films and more unsettling character work. His recent run has included Animal in 2023, where his brief but heavily discussed turn left a strong impression, followed by Kanguva in 2024. In 2025, he featured in Hari Hara Veera Mallu and Housefull 5, while also appearing in The Baads of Bollywood.

The line-up ahead shows that momentum carrying forward. Bandar is his next confirmed theatrical release, arriving on June 5, 2026, and he is also attached to Alpha, scheduled for release in July 2026. Taken together, those projects underline an actor who is no longer tied to one screen image, but is actively reshaping it with every new choice.
