PVR-Inox CEO Kamal Gianchandani Declared Bhool Chuk Maaf a Real Box Office Hit!
Bhool Chuk Maaf, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, has not only made audiences laugh, but it has also restored the theatrical heartbeat of Bollywood. After facing the ups and downs of a legal battle and a delayed release, the film is now enjoying the fruits of its labour at the box office.

Kamal Gianchandani, Chief of Business Planning & Strategy at PVR-INOX Limited, took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend the rom-com’s performance, and he pronounced that:
“Some wrote off #BhoolChukMaaf citing ‘discount offers’ or ‘lack of appeal’😇
The box office tells a very different story — it’s a genuine HIT💥
May has revived theatres, audiences are back in big numbers, and the big screens are booming all over the country. 🎬🔥.”
This endorsement is heavy, coming from India’s biggest multiplex chain, especially with the initial fallout between exhibitors and producers.
The Dispute That Almost Shot Theatrical Release in the Head
Originally set for the May 9 release, the film took a question mark when tensions began to rise on the border between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.
Maddock Films took the OTT approach, and PVR-INOX initiated legal proceedings and issued a summons for breach of contract.
The matter ultimately made its way through legal systems, yielding a result in court with a modified theatrical window per directive of the Delhi High Court.
Bhool Chuk Maaf finally released on May 23, almost back to where it originally was to open.
In the interim, Bhool Chuk Maaf caught up to audiences through its quirky time-loop story and its Rajkummar Rao–Wamiqa Gabbi chemistry.
A Win for Exhibitors & Audiences
As Gianchandani articulated earlier:
“The modified window has been agreed strictly on the basis of the directive of Hon’ble High Court. The exception is a clear one-off exception made on extreme circumstances.”
Nonetheless, despite the time wasted, Bhool Chuk Maaf has ultimately been a winner, achieving outstanding numbers at the box office while restarting the interest in theatrical mid-budget releases.
