It’s a double celebration for fans of the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. As the megastar celebrates his birthday today, the makers of the epic science-fiction film Kalki 2898 AD have given a massive return gift to his admirers. It has been confirmed that Big B will be reprising his powerful role of Ashwatthama in the upcoming sequel to the blockbuster film.
A Special Birthday Announcement
The huge update came directly from the production house, Vyjayanthi Films. They took to social media to wish the actor and confirmed his return to the franchise. Their message read, “Wishing a very Happy Birthday to one and only @SrBachchan sir. It is an honour and a privilege to work alongside you… We eagerly look forward to having you back with us soon.” This post has put an end to all speculation, making it clear that Bachchan’s journey in the Kalki universe will continue.
Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of the immortal warrior Ashwatthama was one of the biggest highlights of the first film. His character was tasked with protecting Sumathi, Kalki’s mother. The confirmation of his return is a huge development for the sequel, which is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in 2026.
Uncertainty Around The Rest Of The Cast
While Big B’s role is locked, there is still some uncertainty surrounding the rest of the original cast. Reports have been strong that Deepika Padukone, who played the crucial role of Sumathi, is no longer a part of the project. Recently, she was in the news for her alleged “8-hour shift demand.” While the makers haven’t confirmed her exit, rumors suggest that actress Alia Bhatt might be considered to replace her in the sequel.
The first film featured a massive star cast including Prabhas as the bounty hunter Bhairava, Kamal Haasan as Supreme Yaskin, and Disha Patani in a supporting role. Fans are now eagerly waiting for an official announcement on which other actors will be returning for the next chapter.
