Border 2 is all set to take over Indian theatres like never before! The Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan starrer war drama releases this Friday, January 23, and distributors have made massive demands from exhibitors to ensure maximum showcasing.
The advance booking has been super strong with 13,500 tickets already sold across the top three national chains. Trade sources are predicting an opening of Rs. 40 crores.
Single Screens Locked For Two Weeks
In a rare move, distributors have asked single screen theatres to allot ALL shows exclusively to Border 2 for two whole weeks. This showcasing request is unprecedented and shows the confidence the makers have in the film.
For two screen cinemas as well, the directive is to give all shows to the war drama. This means smaller theatres will essentially be running only Border 2 during the opening period.
Multiplexes Asked For Maximum Shows
The showcasing demands for multiplexes are equally massive. Three screen cinemas have been asked to play a minimum of 12 shows daily. Multiplexes with four screens need to play 14 shows, five screen cinemas must run 16 shows, and six screen multiplexes are required to screen 18 shows per day.
For theatres with seven or more screens, the requirement goes up to 20 shows daily. However, for multiple screen cinemas, this directive needs to be followed for just one week unlike single screens.
Why This Massive Showcasing
Border 2 has a runtime of 3 hours and 19 minutes. This means the gap between two shows in most cinemas would be approximately four hours. Trade experts point out that even three screen cinemas will essentially allot all shows to Border 2 if they follow the directive.
The film releases on a four day weekend as Monday, January 26, is a national holiday on account of Republic Day. This extended weekend is expected to result in sky high first week numbers.
Advance Booking Going Strong
The booking for Border 2 was opened way in advance on Sunday, which was a pleasant surprise for fans. With Dhurandhar almost reaching the end of its theatrical run and no other big release clashing on January 23, theatres had no reason to hold back.
As of Monday evening, 13,500 tickets were sold across PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis chains alone.
