Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Faces Uphill Task To Score On Diwali With Adult Only Rating; CBFC Replaces ‘Raavan’ With ‘villain’, ‘maal’ With ‘ladki’

Diwali is usually a time for family-friendly films, but this year is going to be very different. The new romantic saga, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, is taking a bold step. The movie has been given an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate by the Censor Board (CBFC).

This is a big move, but in recent times, ‘A’ rated films like Animal and Coolie have shown that an adult rating doesn’t stop a movie from becoming a blockbuster. This intense love story is ready to make its mark amid the festive fireworks.

CBFC Makes Six Changes

Even though the film was given an ‘A’ rating, the CBFC still asked the makers to make six modifications. According to the cut list, a 2-minute 12-second shot was asked to be modified. The exact details of this particular shot are not specified.

In another change, a quick 1-second visual of the Mantralaya building was asked to be completely removed from the film.

Audio Cuts And Dialogue Replacements

The film also had some audio cuts to get the certificate. The dialogue “sleep with her” was completely removed. In two different places, the word ‘Raavan’ was replaced with the word ‘villain’.

In fact, the CBFC’s Examining Committee asked the makers to remove all dialogues that belonged to the epic Ramayana. Lastly, the word ‘maal’ was replaced with ‘ladki’. After all these changes were made, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat was passed with an ‘A’ certificate on October 16.

A Diwali First In 22 Years

The film’s final runtime, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 140.17 minutes. This means the film is 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 17 seconds long.

What’s really interesting is that Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is the first Diwali release in 22 long years to get an ‘A’ rating. The last time this happened was in 2003, when the horror flick Sssshhh and the thriller Inteha were both released with an ‘A’ certificate. Before that, Annarth (2002) and Kamal Haasan’s Abhay (2001) were also adult-rated Diwali releases. In 1999, the A-rated Shool, starring Manoj Bajpayee, famously clashed with the family super-hit Hum Saath Saath Hain.

About Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is an upcoming romantic saga directed by Milap Zaveri. The film stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles. It is set for a Diwali 2025 release and has been certified ‘A’ by the CBFC, making it a unique offering for the festival.
