The Christmas season is witnessing an unprecedented five-way box office clash involving Hollywood titans, Bollywood superstars, and Pan India legends. With release dates now locked, the competition promises fireworks like never before at cinemas across the country.

Avatar Fire And Ash Gets Head Start

Avatar Fire and Ash releases on December 19, technically arriving a week early before the Christmas releases. Directed by James Cameron, the third installment will introduce the Ash People or Fire Navi, adding a darker tone to the franchise. The previous film, Avatar The Way of Water, collected approximately Rs 391.4 crore in India in 2022, surpassing huge Bollywood blockbusters. With a head start of one week, it will likely dominate IMAX and premium format screens.

Kartik Aaryan Returns With Dharma Production

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri releases on December 25 and marks a massive homecoming for Kartik Aaryan with Dharma Productions after their highly publicized fallout years ago. Directed by Sameer Vidwans, who delivered Satyaprem Ki Katha with Kartik, the film reunites the actor with Ananya Panday. Their previous collaboration Pati Patni Aur Woh collected approximately Rs 84.56 crore in India. Billed as a Gen Z rom com with a ’90s soul, the movie promises nostalgic charm elevated by chart-topping tunes from Vishal Shekhar.

Sriram Raghavan Presents War Biopic Ikkis

Ikkis is the dark horse of the season, releasing on December 25. Directed by master thriller filmmaker Sriram Raghavan of Andhadhun fame, the film is a biopic of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient. Starring Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra, and Jaideep Ahlawat, this marks Agastya’s big theatrical test after his debut in The Archies on Netflix. Raghavan’s previous film Andhadhun collected Rs 74.32 crore in India net purely on word of mouth and amassed Rs 439.64 crore worldwide.

Pan India And Hollywood Complete The Lineup

Vrusshabha, starring Mohanlal, releases on December 25 as an epic action entertainer from the Malayalam industry, but shot as a proper Pan India film. The movie marks the big Pan India debut for Shanaya Kapoor and Zahrah S Khan. Meanwhile, Anaconda brings Jack Black and Paul Rudd in a meta-comedic reimagining of the 1997 cult classic, directed by Tom Gormican. With Godzilla and Kong movies collecting Rs 106.99 crore in India recently, the high-budget snake disaster movie has a built-in audience.
