Chunky Panday Felt ‘Faded’ When Stars Like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Govinda, Ajay Devgn Entered Into Industry – Here’s Why!

Chunky Panday opens up about feeling "faded" in Bollywood as new stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan rose to fame. Here's what he said!

Chunky Panday entered the Bollywood scene in 1987 with his debut in Aag Hi Aag. The film kicked off a successful journey, leading to hits like Tezaab, Khatron Ke Khiladi, and Paap Ki Duniya

However, as new stars began to emerge, he felt his shine dimming. In a recent interview, Chunky shared how the arrival of actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Govinda, and Ajay Devgn left him feeling “lost” in the crowd.

Chunky Panday On Facing Challenges In Securing Films & Shows

Reflecting on his early career during a conversation with Indian Express/Screen, Chunky revealed the struggles he faced, including numerous rejections and failed auditions in both film and television.

One moment came when he approached a prominent director known for romantic films. Dressed in a tank top after a workout, he faced a blunt comment: “I am not casting for Tarzan.” The filmmaker’s words stung, yet they didn’t deter Panday.

He also revealed that his first film opportunity arrived in an unexpected place: the restroom of a five-star hotel. After three years of tough breaks, this chance marked a turning point in his career. Despite the setbacks, Chunky’s spirit remained intact. He has always approached his career with humour, finding light in challenging moments.

Bollywood Started Categorising Its Lead Actos, Says Housefull 5 Star

Chunky Panday observed that in the 1990s, Bollywood started categorising its leading actors. Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar became known as the kings of action films. Shah Rukh Khan rose to fame as the ultimate romantic hero. At the same time, Aamir Khan focused on serious dramas, while Salman Khan captured audiences with family-oriented movies by director Sooraj Barjatya.

Chunky Panday Says He Felt ‘Lost’

When Chunky Panday was asked about navigating the competitive film industry, he confessed that the arrival of so much new talent made him feel “lost.” He started his career in Bollywood during a time of big changes, with newcomers like Govinda and Aamir Khan joining the scene from 1986 to 1990. This wave of fresh faces made it difficult for established actors like him to find their footing.

Chunky recalled the peak of his career in 1988 as a fantastic time, but soon after, his visibility in the industry began to wane. He candidly stated, “Too many people came in at the time, but there was no one to blame but myself.”

His ambition drove him to take on various roles to make ends meet, which ultimately shifted his career trajectory. “You can’t chart your career very well because your priorities become very different,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Chunky Panday is set to star alongside Anupam Kher in the upcoming film Vijay 69.
